Municipalities have been using co-gen energy at their wastewater (shiat water) plants for years and years. They sell the excess back to the grid. This is one of the reasons the rate has remained stable compared to other "services" in the recent past. Any sewage rate that has jumped excessively is just the customer getting raped by a corrupt political class.

Oh it's certainly not "new."  China and India have been doing it since the 1970s.  It's still cool and interesting.

According to TA, this is new to them.  It is the first in that commonwealth, and soon their heads will spin when they find out about wind turbines and smart phones.  They're still adjusting to no longer hearing that dial up sound.

That means that the vast majority of the people in this state are young liberals, but all the money & property are owned by the biggest packs of NIMBY bigots (and their carefully indoctrinated descendants) that give the entire state an epic douchebag reputation.  I'm not shocked that Massachusetts is 100 years behind the tech curve in something that would set off the NIMBY crowd so much as impressed that they actually made progress.
