(WKYC Cleveland)   Not news: soldier comes home from deployment. Impressive, but still not news: his seventh deployment. Awesome: his entire hometown throws a flashmob surprise party to welcome him back   (wkyc.com) divider line 16

I'm not sure if a large group of people surprising someone just back from deployment is such a good idea.

I contest the use of the terms "entire hometown" "flash mob" and "surprise party." Also: "awesome."

shintochick: 2wolves: Got his 20 in and he's a First Sargent?

Sounds odd to anyone else?

Yeah, you'd think after 20 he'd be a little further up in rank.

Retiring at 20 years with a grade of E-8? There's only one grade higher so I would say E-8 is pretty normal and respectable for 20 years in. Especially with how many tours he has been through.

Why we continue to celebrate people who go overseas to kill on behalf of corporations and lies, I'll never understand.

This. Especially after the 7th one. Dude might be a little twitchy.

Hell, when I got back from my first deployment I was more concerned about whether a car parked on the side of the highway was gonna blow up in front of me. That made driving pretty interesting for the first couple of weeks.

You think that's too low? There's only one more step.

You think that's too high? They were so goddamn desperate that they threw out all the recruiting rules and were recruiting the bottom quartile, felons, drug users. A reliable two decade guy would be priceless.

Guess_Who: oldernell: Seven deployments.  Thanks George and Dick.

1/10

Only 2 of those deployments happened while Bush was in office.

But all 7 are because of what Bush did while he was in office.

Flash mob?  That was like 30 people and a dog.

Seventh deployment? And people still vote for Republicans and Democrats? Go get 'em, Obama.
