It's the beginning of global freezing. I'm going to drive around town in my Escalade now. I'll be using one hand to spray freon gas into the air while I use the other hand to jerk off.

By the way, I did not mean to imply that jerking off helps global warming. I just like to jerk off.

Let me guess: although we keep hearing about catastrophic ice loss due to climate change, this is terrifying evidence of climate change, and we need to hurriedly destroy the economy in a pants-shiatting panic.

This will be explained away. I read a warmer describe it like this: As the heat (IR that would have been reflected back to warm via CO2 feedback) that gets trapped by open water, it leads to rapid cooling in the area and thus rapid ice recovery.

I guess that heat must be...( wait for it )

Not a single one of you rtfa, did you.  The thicker ice melted, and the extended drift is just thin stuff.  It did so because a measured increase in the temps of the winds, which melted said thicker ice.

Imagine you have a very very cold block of ice sitting on a metal pan and you heated the top with a hairdryer.  You'd get spread at the bottom, in the pan - but your overall amount of ice would diminish.

Or, you could look at just the pictures, and get all giddy with your "oh oh!  We're not hurtin nothin, see?" silliness.  That works too, I guess.

Or the notion that colder = more ice and warmer = less ice is too simplistic.

2013-03-02 06:53:32 PM
Sigh.

First of all, more surface area of ice in the water does not entail that there is more ice in Antarctica. Warming and winds could be contributing factors for bringing more ice out to sea, with less ice covering a larger surface area.

Second of all, it's called global warming for a reason. Weather is complex, and one area could be getting cooler due to changes in pressure, etc, while the global average rises. Ever notice how no one ever claims global warming is BS by pointing out that the global average temperature is actually lowering? No. Because it's not.

Gyrfalcon: What's the equivalent in elephants? I need to convert for some grade-school students.

How much ice is on Antarctica? The Antarctic Ice Cap contains about 85% of the world's ice, which is about 80% of all the fresh water on earth. That ice weights about 27 million billion tons (24,500 million billion kg). It's difficult to conceptualize a number that large. It might help to imagine 100,000 tons, the weight that could be carried by a container ship 335 meters long and 43 meters wide, one of the largest cargo ships on the ocean. If you loaded all the ice on Antarctica onto these cargo ships and then starting counting the ships, assuming you could count one ship per second, you would still be counting more than 860 years from now. The massive weight of the ice cap pushes the underlying continent about 3,300 feet (1,000 meters) into the earth's crust.

The largest living, male African elephants can reach a height of 4 m (13 ft) and weigh 7,000 kg (15,000 lb)

so 3.5 million billion elephants

HOW to explain a number THAT big .... good luck

Butt what needs to be said to the begging question, is that buttload is a measurement of potential, whilst a shiatton is a measurement of weight.

Well, you know, ice = cold, water = warm is about as much as most people can handle.

I had friends back in the day who thought the "hole in the ozone layer" was an actual hole, and thought there was a way to physically repair it. You know, like with some kind of needle and thread and a really big patch.

/much more entertaining

conclusion: you aint got shiat to prove nor disprove either's case. Fact of the matter, the substances within the earth that contribute to "climate change" has been here long before your greatest tadpole papa was squirming around and has always been circulating in our environment, whether as a forest fires, oilfield fire or those big arse mountains dumping cubic shiattons of inner earth heat into the air.  It's cyclical and constant there's no stopping it.  So if it makes you feel better live where you can walk to work, grow your own food and ride mass electric transit on "family day".  Otherwise shaaaduuuuup.

2013-03-02 07:42:48 PM
Warming causes ice to melt.  There is a record amount of ice around the antarctic.  This confirms my long held suspicion that global warming is just so much bullshiat.  The emails from the university of East  Anglia showed that global warming was bullshiat and this confirms it.  if global warming were real, there would be no need for the people at East Anglia to fake evidence.
