They're aping the strategy of the Browns. The Browns have long been holding down ticket and concession prices, compared to the rest of the league, and it's helped endear them to fans. Mind you, this won't make the Indians as hot of a ticket as the Browns, but it will help.

Well.. They need to do something because people certainly not going to come to Jacob's Field to watch a baseball game...

downstairs: Indians already tried this one, and it didn't quite work out.

Immediately thought of this.  It sounds like the most epic night in baseball ever.

Came for 10-cent beer night, leaving very proud.

Glad to see everyone talking about 10-cent beer night. The one thing that amazes me about it is that it was probably the worst opponent you could think of. Copious amounts of alcohol AND a team managed by Billy Martin? It's a recipe for disaster.

If they incorporate this idea into a few double headers with a music theme, there is no limit to what can happen on the field.

while we have a baseball thread, the WBC started last night

Taiwan beat Australia 4-1 in the opener (WP: Fark favorite Chien Ming Wang)
The Dutch upset Korea 5-0 (Fat Andruw with 2 hits and an RBI)
Japan beat Brazil 5-3

Cuba and Brazil play tonight at 10:30 ET

Games in Pool D (USA, CAN, MEX, ITA) don't start til Thursday. US's first game is 7 pm Friday against Mehico, though they'll play a spring training game against the White Sox Tuesday at 3.

This is good news!
Now my plans for mixing "$1 Shot Night" with "Free Bat Giveaway" at the Oakland Coliseum can move forward.

Between the cheap food & drink and the Indians actually spending money to improve the team this offseason, maybe it'll be worth it to make a trip up to Progressive Field after mid-July this season.

/Has tickets to 12 games already
//Go Tribe
///Wants his Albert Belle bobblehead

That sounds almost as good as the Springfield Communist Party registration night and rotten tomato night cross promotion.

Billy Martin, cheap beer, and Pete Franklin getting the fans riled up.  Recipe for disaster.

The Tribe lowered concession prices in order to help jack up attendance so they can sell the team.

Someone I knew in High School went to that infamous game in '74. He wandered out onto the field during the melee, and got knocked out cold in less than a minute. Good times...

My freshman roomate's aunt was VP of marketing for the Indians and came up with that idea. He was also a ballball during the late 90s runs.

/Cool story bro.

Per Wiki... It was 3.2% (near beer) they were serving that night, for crying out loud!

Pfft.... Amateurs!
