slackananda: Zero tolerance for what exactly?

Zero tolerance for actual leprechauns.

The city of Hoboken would like to remind you Martin Luther King day is not an excuse for partying, public drunkenness, fighting, or loud music. They also expect black people to somehow hold a job long enough to pay the 2k fine that goes with the above

That headline would be okay, right?

At first they came for the leprechauns and I said nothing because I am not a leprechaun.  Then they came for the tolerance and there was no one left to speak for it.

Omg my friends and I used to go to this. Well, they used to drag me to this. What an awful drunken and crowded display.

The shenanigans put NYC's parade to shame. Now that Hoboken has a lot of families in it, they are really doing everything they can to put the kibosh on the festivities.

My friend just bought an apartment there. He's having his house warming today. I don't know how you can be over 25 years old and not find this parade annoying as hell. It's like every kid from Jersey shows up at 10am to literally get face down plastered. Think Bourbon Street times ten.

Oh, and there's absolutely no Irish people there. It's the epitome of "Irish for a Day" syndrome.

There is a lot you can say about the Irish, but not holding jobs isn't one of them.

Just sayin'. Lets keep our stereotypes accurate.

Heh, all these years of Fark commenters posting racists stuff about blacks, thread after thread, and only NOW you're noticing a race problem because a comment in a headline is made about the Irish? Dafuq you've been all this time?

BTW I like Hoboken, nice city. Pretty young women everywhere in that town.

St. Patrick wasn't Irish why would people celebrating his holiness need to be?  He was a Cumbrian slave that went to Ireland. (probably he might have also been of a Scottish tribe and likely is something of an amalgamation of a couple of early bishops assigned to Ireland with similar names)

It is a good excuse to be merry, neighborly, and have some drunken feasting in a good hearted attempt to keep your heathen infidel neighbor from burning in hell forever.  So as it is bring the news of the golden rule and save your friends and neighbors from the inferno.  Pro-tip a good meal and a hearty amount of booze will be a good way to convince your friends.  This is where the mormons and jehovahs wittnesses go wrong.

That's what I was thinking so I reread the article and found this:

The city will be enforcing the same policy as last year, Spokesman Juan Melli said.

Funny you say that, Cinco De Mayo has become a pretty popular "drinking holiday" in NYC for the past couple of years. Just like St. Patrick's Day, except instead of beer and liquor its margaritas and Jose Cuervo.

Is this happening any where else?

When I was in college we didn't do Cinco de Mayo. It's really been like the last 5 years I've seen this and its mostly yuppies, not college kids.

There's a bit of that in chicago, but it's nowhere as big as st. patty's. We tried to find a place to do some boozing, and the two places we went didn't really have anything going on.

It's been a thing in Denver for as long as I've lived here. Hispanics cruise federal, Caucasians drink Mexican beer.

Yes Duff Irish is a nationality and a race well Milesean is a race and is a Celtic people from the Iberian peninsula mixed with the native Firblog and  Tuatha De Danann.  They were all celtic and basically looked the same.  Just like there are about 40 different races of east asians that are similar looking to western eyes.

Thank you. My own grandfather worked on the railroad and in coal and clay mines until he "retired" to farming full-time. There certainly may have been a sense of hopelessness for immigrant Irish men who remained in the cities where they landed, but there was no shortage of dirty, backbreaking labor for those who headed West.

North Asians (chinese, japanese, koreans, mongolians) are more closely relared to Europeans than to south asians

'Retired' to farming?!?
How the hell is anyone farming even remotely retired? Unless your idea of retirement includes work starting when even the birds are sleeping, til well after the cattle are too tried to walk anymore. Oh, and I love the perks (sarcasm) package that comes with that job. Lots of sore/hurting/broken bodily parts and a sickday=nopayday policy.

Thanks, buuuuut, no thanks. Me likey I.T. work better.

No farmers=no farms= no food=zombie apocalypse freakout

Whats more fun is getting out of the big racial colour divides and more into fun psuedo scientific divides like the martial races and different peoples of India, and china.  I suppose we could also do it in Europe with the slavs and their subpeoples, the  variousCelts  the Romani, and what not.  There are clear physical differences.  Yet interestingly for some reason I'm a racist according to people around me when I say oh look Indians killing Indians in India?  Why should theBritish feel guilty and stop looting their country because some Sihks and Pathans killed some Punjabis and random Hindi's to uphold colonial order?  They are getting paid and those people are half a world away.

Ulster Protestant ancestry, so I can't speak to the Catholicism. However, those accusations do, in fact, describe my Scandinavian relatives quite welll, so feel to pick up this charming diatribe as King Knut's Day approaches.

Sounds good mmagdalene. Though we just had king knuts day in january and I'm not going to wait a hole year to use sweeping vaguely negative generalizations, Maybe I can use it on the Latino's for the 5th of May?  Honestly that seems like a good holiday, Why not take a day to make fun of the french for having an incompetent military and get drunk?

Shtetl I think we allready pointed out that St. Patrick wasn't Irish.  Why are people stuck up on him being Irish, he wasn't from there, next people will be all up on Moses being something other than Egyptian.
