Now that's done by Mickey Mouse.

Only if you are a blonde beauty from Siberia.

2013-03-02 12:33:40 PM
FTFA:  Sources said a 34-year-old blonde beauty from Serbia was focusing her lens on Broadway and W. 46th St. at 1:20 p.m. when Washington state tourist Deanne Ostbye, 30, allegedly went berserk and attacked, knocking her victim to the ground, according to sources.

When will tourist on tourist crime end?

Stop the madness!

Ostbye was cuffed and charged with reckless endangerment and assault, police said.

Infernalist: Has New York grown so tame that a random beating delivered upon a tourist makes news?

Yeah, it pretty much has.  It's too expensive for the small-time criminals to live in Manhattan any more, the big-time ones have pushed them out.

And the big-time criminals (aka Wall Street) aren't interested in mugging tourists, there's no real profit in that.

Exactly.  As soon as I realized I was part of the tourist attraction, I started walking through them on purpose.  Hell, I used to photo bomb people in Grand Central.

2013-03-02 12:38:49 PM
But the victim was a pretty blonde lady, while her attacker has some ethnicity about her. It's exactly the type of story that I would expect from The Daily News.

First of all it was just a tourist fighting another tourist, and for me anyways worse because it was an American attacking someone from another country (crazy Americans!). My thing is why complain about tourists blocking the sidewalk? In Boston the Bostonians suck because they can't walk or stay to one side. The people who live here are worse than the tourists. The visitors come here and spend money into the economy so I have no problems with them.

2013-03-02 12:41:38 PM
I would throw that smirking coont in prison for 10 years or so for that shiat.  You cant go around beating random people because you dont like them taking pictures.  Plus that is no way to treat visitors to our country.

Assault can be simple verbal threatening and is not necessarily worthy of arrest.  I guess konking someone in the head with and object hard enough to split their scalp and cause bleeding is the reckless part although we use to call it battery and generally would get one arrested.  Either a legal mincing of words to lesson the degree of battery has occurred, or the victim chose not to pursue the assault charge.

^^^^^^^A very important fact FTFA^^^^^^

When I worked in the city I would often atop and offer people who were obviously there from elsewhere (and you could clearly tell that this was a big deal to them to come to NYC) to take a picture of them ALL so there didn't have to be always a 'missing man' picture.

Most NYers (real NYers) are pretty decent folks.

It's Jerusalem syndrome!

People, religious types mostly, go to Jerusalem and are so disappointed or over-whelmed (or both) that they start thinking they are Jesus or the Virgin Mother.

People go to New York from Washington State and they start turning into Rhoda.

She looked like a New Yorker to me (the New York sweat shirt should have tipped me off that it was an outtatowna.). She was touring New York when all of a sudden she turned into a Scotsman. No, wait, into her idea of a New Yorker.

I can understand this. When I stood in the Uffizi the thought struck me that this was some of the greatest art in the history of the world. Why wasn't it better? A few paintings really impressed me--the Holy Family by Michelangelo, Caravaggio's Young Bacchus, but a lot of the stuff was meh. If I had been a weak-minded excitable art-lover type, it could have turned my head, but I have always thought "Is this all there is?" about the world, not to mention "Why?"

Why is there a paper bag right there on the sidewalk? If there is a God, could he have made a universe where the paper bag was somewhere else? Is that dog turd necessary? Why? What for? The Universe is nice, impressive even, but it seems to be full of a lot of unnecessary shiat. Is there a reason for this or is it all quantum?

Thank you, Mayor Bloomberg for turning New York into Disney's New York. No, seriously. It's much nicer now. It's almost liveable for sane people. Although you still get a selection of the world's great loonies.

Jument: duckpoopy: I never get out of the way of people taking pictures in public. If you are taking pictures where I am then you must consider me part of the scenery.

This is totally fair. I will detour around if there's room but if people insist on taking up a lot of space for more than a few seconds, to hell with them and I expect people to do the same to me.

Something I have observed in various parts of the world:

Those who carry DSLRs are much more likely to try to keep out of other's shots than those who don't.

How does a hot blonde Serbian like this one or that not just curb stomp a fat ugly piece of shiat after a sucker punch? I could see her jumping on that bloated carcass until the streets ran yellow with blubber.

Cheek bones you can slice truffles with. And tatas that will poke your eyes out. Best stay away.

LordOfThePings: gja: When I worked in the city I would often atop and offer people who were obviously there from elsewhere (and you could clearly tell that this was a big deal to them to come to NYC) to take a picture of them ALL so there didn't have to be always a 'missing man' picture.

How many cameras did you get?

LOL. Seriously though, I have had some of the most interesting convo's in my life with visitors to NYC.

brantgoose: It's Jerusalem syndrome!

^This^

Yup, I've seen it thousands of times.  People come to NYC thinking it's like what they see on TV.......they also are hell bent on demonstrating that they are as "tough" as any New Yorker....usually it doesn't end well for them.   I know of one Midwestern nitwit who was gonna prove that he could drive better than any New Yorker......ended up getting his car impounded.

As for what New York was like back in the 70s-80s, it was rough.  I don't miss the prostitutes, drug dealers, burnt-out buildings, squeegee dudes,  piles of trash or the graffiti(which was everywhere).  I do miss the independent little clubs, shops, eateries.   The place has been "mall-ified".   The little business guys have all been forced out by the national chain operations.  For example: If you want to buy authentic Japanese groceries in NYC, you have to go over to the Jersey side of the Hudson.  That's just sad.

how do you knock someone into the ground? were they mega-fighting, like the transformers, or a superhero/supervillain bout?

It's really easy to kncok someone to the ground when you deliver a blow to the back of their head when they don't know it's coming.

Brother, you aint just whistlin dixie!!!

I was in the city for the BIG blackout of '77. It got frigging primitive. My buddies and I walked across the bridge to Queens just to get the hell out of there.
There were folks going completely batshiat and straight-up throwing garbage pails through shop windows and walking right in to loot the places.

Don't miss the 70-80s NYC at all.

Came to post the same thing. The Daily News: journalism at its finest!

You aren't aware that they just issue a citation and don't arrest people sometimes? And you blame the journalist?

clowncar on fire: I guess konking someone in the head with and object hard enough to split their scalp and cause bleeding is the reckless part although we use to call it battery and generally would get one arrested.

yeah, I can't wrap my head around why/how she wasn't arrested.  Either the description of the event is WAAAY off, such that the blonde was in a verbal altercation with curly there and curly conked her as a response...or...I mean yeah, to smash someone who doesn't even know you're coming, they're just standing there taking a picture...

Only thing I can think of is that the police learned from the blonde that she was leaving very soon (maybe that day or such) and wouldn't be able to press charges or even have time for a witness statement?  But even still...other people were around, they can give statements...

Dunno.  Weird.

So I hear it was rougher, but I heard much cheaper and punk was badass.  But maybe living the whole punk lifestyle was overrated?

I live in the village now and I talked with someone that lived in my building in the 80s and they got robbed.  But given that I got mugged in midtown, getting my apartment robbed sounds pretty tame in comparison (not that I want it that way)

So you walked across the Queensborough?  Did you see any violence break out?

Raymo853: Too bad New Yorkers do the whole walking slow, standing on the sidewalk taking photos and such when they are in other people's cities

Standing on the sidewalk taking photos, yes, walking slow, no.

I grew up in NY, and since have lived a decade each in the Midwest and on the West Coast and have traveled the South and Southwest. New Yorkers do not walk slow. They may stop periodically, but a New York mosey is practically a jog in much of the county and a sprint in many parts of the south. My 75 year old father, a New Yorker all his life until the mandatory retirement move to southern Florida, still walks faster than 90% of the population.

It damned near involved us, we saw plenty going on. But we double-timed it all the way across, and there were 5 of us so that was off-putting to the upstarts.
