If you hit someone in the rear, it's always your fault.  If a cop hits you in the rear it's always your fault.

Yet again, we have proof that the police are corrupt assholes.

Cop should have ran his ass over.

I don't see what happened. He rides past the cop, and then the cop pulls him over? I don't get it.

The car in front of him was signalling that they were making a lane change. That jerk on the motorcycle slowed down to let him over, and the cop rear ended him. Apparently the asswipe on the bike doesn't know that as soon as the blinker goes on he was supposed to speed up and cock block that car with his motorcycle.

2013-03-02 01:53:20 PM
So if the cop had been going even faster, hit the rider and killed him, the cop would still blame the rider?  Great job by the cop turning on the full asshole attitude from the moment he approached the motorcyclist.  Absolute perfect execution of strong-arm bully tactics to get out of any and all responsibility for his actions.

Biker: "What the fark are you suggesting? A blowjob?"

Well, to be honest, aren't motorcycles supposed to stay to the left side of the lane?

As for the cop, they always tailgate people. It's rather stupid, but it is what they do... if I'm on a motorcycle, I sure as hell am keeping aware of my surroundings and somebody tailgating me. If nothing else, put your hazards on and slow to a stop and ask the police officer why he is following so close BEFORE it becomes an accident.

yes cops tailgate.

Happened to my brothers wife.  She stopped on the road got out and yelled at the cop to stop doing that.

Worked for her because of her CIA badge.

that's very wrong, and makes the cop look very bad.
I wonder what proper procedure is in that circumstance.

Some areas, you can't used the "Hazards" while in motion.

motorcycle should have stayed left of the center of the lane but the cop did the bigger opps by tailgating and not noticing the car in the left hand lane with its signal on. it the bike was further over to the left maybe the car in the left lane would have seen him better and not tried to change lanes. i'm calling it a 3 way tie with the cop as the loser because rearing someone is always the trump card. oh forget cop card trumps everything else.

I knew someone who got t-boned by a cop who was running a red light without their sirens / lights on. It totaled her car, and messed up her back. The dash camera footage went "missing" All of the officers who responded to the indecent lied under oath and said that it was her fault. It took her years in court just to get her medical bills paid, and I think that's because one of the paramedics finally came forward about how the cops acted at the scene. None of the cops were prosecuted for lying under oath or obstructing justice.

Remember kids, police officers are your friends just another street gang.

As a motorcycle rider, I noticed the car on the left was a possible hazard and I would have stayed back, too. Cop was a douche.  When the cop said, "what do we need here?", the proper answer from the rider was, "your insurance information."

My brother got hit by a drunk off-duty cop.  After on-duty cops showed up, the drunk cop somehow disappeared without making an official statement and my brother got cited for reckless driving.  Farked his insurance rates up.

Then he could have put his lights on and pulled the cyclist over. Hitting him seems indicative of inattentive or distracted driving.

Sounds like crime.

Wow, there's some dumb people in this thread.  Whether on a motorcycle, car, or bicycle, you are entitled to THE ENTIRE LANE.  It doesn't matter that he was on the right side of the lane or in the middle - he was hit from the rear.  It is any motorist's obligation to avoid hitting people in front of them - especially a cop's.

I imagine what happened is the cop got behind the bike to run his plate and looked down at his laptop to type the plate number in right as the bike braked for the car.  So he should have just fessed up to that, handed over his insurance information, and been done with it.  Instead he acted like a royal douche.  Glad the biker got that on camera.

Yes, but traffic was still moving.  He could have maintained his distance and still kept going forward.

There was no reason to come to a complete stop.

/still the cops fault, just that the biker was driving like an asshole.

If the bike rider had been in his proper blocking position, there would be much less reason to doubt that. The car making the lane change did brake through the change, but I am not convinced it had to; always a nuisance when that happens. The biker really did not need to stop, though. He was not riding well.

Wise_Guy:

...except for the traffic in front of him coming to a near-stop, and the guy in the left lane signaling to change lanes. Once you slow down to a certain point, you're better off stopping for a moment instead of doing the low-speed wobble. The cyclist didn't even hit his brakes that hard. He wasn't going more than eight to ten MPH when he hit the brakes. The cop was less than half a car length back.

There was no - ZERO - reason for that cop to be following him so closely. 100% the cop's fault, and anyone who says different should not be allowed to drive.

I thought that if you could prove that someone swerved in front of you then immediately slammed on their brakes for no good reason, you may be able to escape liability? That's supposed to be one of the reasons that people have dash cams.

Holy fark you people are idiots.  A car can use the whole lane but a motorcyclist is only allowed to use one half?  Jesus, it's obvious none of you ride.

Yes, in safety class they teach you to ride on the left half of the lane so people (in front of you) can see you in their left hand and rear view mirrors better, but there's absolutely no reason a motorcyclist can't use the entire lane to safely negotiate the street when needed.  I'm not saying he/she can weave back and forth like a 4 year old, but you have every right to ride anywhere in that lane that you need to.  It's not necessarily safe to ride in the oil slick in the middle, but to say he "must be on the left" means I immediately stop listening to what you have to say.

There's nothing this biker did that was wrong.  There's no law that says, "You must follow as close to the car in front of you as you possibly can." or "You must not put your brakes on when someone's behind you."  That's just idiotic and the cop's trying to scare the guy into not getting the cop into trouble.

Enh, there are reason to be in the right half of the lane, and I defer to the biker in question.  In this case, he may have moved because people loooove to clip the lane when merging and he basically traded one accident for another.  A low speed collision like that is the Cop's fault.  He was looking down, or elsewhere in traffic.  Everyone has rolled into someone like that.

Plus, if the guy had tried to gun it to get ahead of traffic and into a safer road position, the cop probably would have pulled him over.

BIKER: great.  name and id?

No, the biker handled it correctly. Notice how they shook hands and he didn't get a ticket?

Somewhat related - did anyone see COPS tonight?

A guy in an old Maverick spins his wheels going around a corner. Cop pulls him over.

At first, Maverick guy is polite, admits he did it to impress his passenger. Cop says he understands (used to have a '74 Gran Torino). Maverick: Like Starsky & Hutch? Cop: yeah.

Cop walks back to his car, says there's no sign of intoxication, the guy was honest, is going to let him go with a warning.

Cop goes back to Maverick. Maverick starts saying the cops lights are reflecting off his mirrors into his eyes. "How can I drive like that? I can't see the road?"

Cop says you're pulled over right now, you don't need to see the road. Maverick guy keeps whining.

Cop asks if he's had anything to drink. Maverick admits to 3 drinks.

The cop is still not even going to write a ticket, but tells him he should pull over to a side street and walk home.

Maverick guy keeps on being a dick and tells the cop he still has his wallet. Maverick guy realizes his wallet is in his lap.

Cop then decides to give him field sobriety tests. Maverick guy flunks miserably and gets arrested for DUI.

I'm telling you, it was a sight to behold. This idiot literally talked himself out of a verbal warning and into a pair of handcuffs.

This is why you always treat cops politely and shut up and let them talk.

perhaps the biker did do the right thing. i guess i was amused at the cops attempt to be threatening by pointing out that he too was recording the incident, something the biker would find quite valuable in proving his innocence

Sort of; this is why you don't talk to cops.  You have an amendment that helps you with this; it's called the FIFTH AMENDMENT.

Do not talk to cops, acknowledge them if you must.  But do not self incriminate.

Isn't the rule of thumb when you rear end someone that it's always your fault? I realize there would be a few exceptions to this rule, but motorcycles stop faster than cars so you're supposed to give them more distance, that's basic driving 101.

When on a traffic stop remember, you might not be able to talk your way out of a ticket, but you can always talk your way into one. Same thing applies to talking yourself down.

So the answer that always works is:

"Oh jeez.  It must have been a trick of the light or something, but I saw what looked like a pedestrian about to step onto the road.  Thank god it wasn't.  It was just a lamp post and the way the shadows were coming off of it."
