As someone who's done improvisational comedy once upon a time, I say good.

Aw hell, I'll probably watch it.  I hope they don't hide Aisha behind a desk the whole time.

I wouldn't mind seeing Stephen Colbert drop by for an episode.
And Florence Henderson.
And Richard Simmons.

Hopefully she is more Clive Anderson and less Drew Carey on involvement.

Ah, that's fake too, they all have an idea what they are going to be asked , remember it is a tv show.

If I could be in the same room with Aisha and Judy Greer both naked at the same time I could die a happy man

2013-03-01 09:32:49 PM
I'd say they should copy a show like QI instead of rehashing a rehash of a show, but I don't think the US has enough clever comedians to pull that off.

We are on the same page. I've liked Judy Greer since Jawbreaker and Aisha since Talk Soup. Hot Damn. Throw in Sarah Chalke and I would probably have a heart attack.

My favorite episode of the American edition has to be the one where Drew had said that Africa was a country.

I wonder if Drew Carey has some clause in his Price is Right contract preventing him from being a regular on any other network show that's preventing him from doing this, even though CW is half-owned by CBS.

In any case, I look forward to this.  It can only be good.

Still think the Clive Anderson version was the best. Especially the ones with Michael mcshane.

The damn tight trousers song he did is still one of the best moments of that show.

How the heck did the Richard Simmons sketch ever get past the censors?

I prefer Clive as host over Drew. He had a much dryer sense of humor that worked nicely.
Plus he didn't have to remind to remind everyone at every turn that "the points don't matter".

Going by this video, it doesn't matter. A few things are apparent. 1)They have to do each one over and over and over again. To get something hilarous for TV (NOT THE HO DOWN) 2) After watching the awful "whos line" knock off where they brought in random celebritys to improve the same way and more often than not, it was damn near a half-hour of them bombing miserably and not in the hilarious way. It makes you appreciate how hard it really is.3)Drew carey and Greg Proops hate each other 4) Ryan Styles and the director hate each other.

They definitely edit out the bad stuff and they have people that contrive good ideas for the improv and they they're selective with the audience ideas for stuff that will work (like ignoring just about everyone that yells PORN for the film, tv, theater styles), but I saw the Colin and Brad live show a while back, and those guys are real talents and they spend a whole lot of time improvising great stuff.

2013-03-02 12:57:49 AM
1) The Drew Carey version could not hold a candle to the British version of Whose Line. It's not even close.

2) I think Aisha Tyler is funnier than Carey, so I'll give it a chance despite having Wayne Brady on there.

3) I promise you that the players either know in advance what's coming or they do a massive amount of editing to make the show. Either way, it's not really improv. But to be honest, most improv troupes are that way.

And...

Trollin4Colon: 4) Ryan Styles and the director hate each other.

Who does Ryan Styles NOT hate?

2013-03-02 01:08:34 AM

desertgeek: despite having Wayne Brady on there.

The problem for me wasn't him in particular, but spending too much time on those Song Styles.  Any music longer than Greatest Hits and Hoedowns get old fast.  I think he'll be fine if they ditch the long songs.
