This means nothing, other than the drivers are probably going to get hired by Lucky Star in order to continuing terrifying everyone.

\NSCSB: Back a few years ago, got stuck in a 60+ minute, one mile backup while they were doing all that bridge work on the Southeast Expressway in Boston because a Lucky Star bus stalled and couldn't pull the ten feet out of one of the two travel lanes that were open that night.  Known they were just as bad as Fung Wah ever since.

Is this the Chinatown bus? If so, that's a shame. I've taken it many times.

One of at least two, the one with the more public horrible driving/maintenance record.

Not sure if its the one I used to take for the NYC-Boston-NYC route. But in terms of cost and ease it was great, not so sure about the safety side of things.

To quote from another Farker who's name I can't recall, give it a week and I'm sure you'll be able to take the Feng Weh to NYC.

Since this was a federal action under Obama, will we see protesting Tea Partiers evoke the Rosa Parks and the Freedom Riders and ride one of these buses? Because by the laws of irony, it can only end with them driving into a lake

2/1 odds there will be a Fing Wah bus line starting up within a month

I will miss being on the pike late at night, thinking I'm going fast, then get passed by this beat-up leviathan old-ass bus, diesel engine screaming as the huge letters spelling FUNG WAH fade into the night.

i smell a thick dense cloud of fumes but it ain't bus exhaust. it's bullshiat cover-up propaganda. a company as public as this one draws attention when they suddenly disappear from site. take note, you will be seeing more of this coast to coast.

/ City Wok isn't just take-out. be careful.

What's more crazy are the people who were interviewed the day after the Fung Wah buses were being pulled from the road. They said they would continue using the bus company because the rates were just too good and they weren't worried about their own safety that much. These are the same type of crazy idiots I'd meet on Greyhound buses, just no common sense. At least they still have Lucky Star coach for all their crazy Asian driver needs.

Were these buses actually getting into more accidents, or were they just found to be held together with chicken wire and glue, and with drivers who don't have regular licenses, let alone bus licenses?

I need to avoid this area or they might impound the creepy van.

Yes, and yes.  They happily, rutinely hurtled through traffic at ~90 mph.  And their usses routinely caught fire, and fell apart- I mentioned one bus whose wheels-literally- fell offon the Mass Pike.   Good riddance to them.

gross people on that bus.

Until a new law was passed, the regulatory agency didn't have authority to shut down violators.

Shang-High: 2/1 odds there will be a Fing Wah bus line starting up within a month

Nope. Part of the rules that authorized this also allow the FMCSA to ban for life operators of companies like this from owning, operating or even selling tickets for another carrier.

The FMCSA just got this authority last year. According to the monthly paper put out by the OOIDA they have been moving very aggressively against the "ghost bus" lines and barring the people involved from ever working for a regulated company. Used to be you'd just re-open under a new operating authority but those days are thankfully gone.

Eight cracked frames? No excuse, except apathy. Drivers are supposed to do daily inspections (at least daily) and that is one of the hundred plus things to look for (not sure how many points on a bus, don't have a passenger endorsement) but it's pretty freaking obvious. Oh there's the frame, and there's a crack. Nope, not going to drive this bus. I've done it before with trucks. The only thing is, chances are the drivers either aren't trained, or not licensed, or already have a heapload of violations because they are apathetic pricks who have no problem risking the lives of others.

Good riddence to bad actors in the industry. Sucks that it removes an option for people who used their service but just having options to have options isn't worth the danger that comes with a fully loaded bus that isn't maintained or properly operated.

I think last year the FMCSA shut down like 28 different bus companies in similar circumstances... all of which were part of a larger network all controlled by the same shady people. They've been tracking companies like this for years, and hopefully they'll shut the rest of the screwballs down before there's another preventable fiery wreck that kills 50 people who just wanted to take a day trip somewhere.

Oh yeah. And that's because the toilet's been stopped up that long. It's even better when you're shut down on the side of the road due to winter weather for two days. N-E-V-E-R going to travel by bus again. If Amtrak doesn't get me close enough, I ain't going. At least on trains you have a range of options for your excretionary enjoyment.

Damn straight. High time we got rid of all this socialist "regulation" crap. We need to return this nation to the halcyon days when a man could pay his money and take his chances.

The Greyhound STATIONS smell like 3 week old stale urine and depression.

The buses are actually pretty nice.

And aside from that one time this lady wigged out on the bus just outside of Tampa, FL, I've met nothing but great folk on the Greyhound bus.

The stations are just awful, though. I think it has something to do with the fact that it's just a place the homeless like to hang out. Like libraries.

Chinese company doesn't care about safety and places little value on human life. Shocking.

China was able to do something for less money, at the expense of safety?  And then they got caught flouting the rules?

YOU DON'T SAY.
