I've been checking some facts and statistics and, and I realize this sounds silly but so far, apparently, dope is a bad idea.

why do people frown upon crating infants?  i hear people always worry about infants and toddlers climbing out of a crib, so why not put a lid on it?  what's wrong with that?

/i'm putting a lid on any crib i ever have.
//make too much sense not too.

I love these stories. Makes me feel better. I feel bad if I leave the baby standing up in his crib. And I always make sure the boys are asleep before I mix pills and booze.

ACunningPlan: CapeFearCadaver: The father later told police he had taken the powerful narcotic painkiller Oxycontin, the muscle relaxer Flexeril, the anti-seizure medication Dilantin and drank a 16-oz. Busch beer

That's babysitting American style!

gja: And there are folks just desperate to have a child to love and raise. And then there are cretins such as this.

Some people should not have children.

Man, you sound JUST like the local police whenever they catch me with an armful down at the park...

An armful of kids? How many can you grab, exactly?

Well, it's a bit complicated, but basically boils down to how old and active they are, plus you gotta factor in your escape route, likelihood of pursuit, how fit the guardians/nannies are, etc.

Last summer the neighbor kid, 2 1/2 at the time, went through a spell of escaping when he was supposed to be napping with his Abuela, and running down the street. I took him home 3 times. They finally figured out where his escape route was.
These things can happen. The guy in TFA is an idiot if he is taking those kinds of meds when he is responsible for anything and chasing them with a beer is proof he should be sterilized.

queezyweezel: FloydA: Diogenes: "This is something that could happen to any parent or any baby sitter," he argued.

Oh FFS.  Well, I guess you can't blame him for trying.

Wait, no.  I think you can.   ARE YOU FARKING KIDDING ME?!?

No really, this could happen to anyone who had taken a bunch of Oxycontin, Flexeril, and Dilantin and washed them down with beer.  I mean seriously, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, how could any reasonable person expect my client to take care of kids when he was that high?  My client is the real victim here!  The state is being completely unreasonable for expecting him to take care of young children in that condition!

If I ever need a lawyer, I'm calling you.

I'll second that.

sandi_fish: If the door was locked, does that mean he locked the kids out?

Do you have door locks?  I do, and I can lock the door and then walk out of it.  Henceforth I will be on the outside, and the door will be locked from the inside.  PRESTO it's farking magic.

I also happen to know for a FACT that almost EVERY 3 year old can operate a standard door lock upto and including deadbolts.  (not usually keys though)

I think this is beside the point. If the guy was truly in such pain that he needed to take all three painkillers/sedatives at the same time and also had been drinking, he needed to find someone else in the neighborhood to take care of three toddlers. What about the neighbor who noticed the problem? She would have done it just to keep the kids safe.

zulius: start calling them

I think it has something to do with the fact that kids undergo a number of important developmental milestones up until the age of about 2.  Describing their age in months gives a more accurate point of reference for the kinds of food the kid will be eating at the time, the kinds of cognitive and motor abilities that should be developing.  Past the age of 2 it matters a lot less.
