concerned neighbor called police after finding one of the children outside and getting no response when he knocked on the door as temperatures dropped into the low 40s.
Police officers knocked and also got no response. One of the officers peered inside a window and saw the girl in the dog cage. Police then kicked the door in. The children were immediately placed in protective custody.
The father later told police he had taken the powerful narcotic painkiller Oxycontin, the muscle relaxer Flexeril, the anti-seizure medication Dilantin and drank a 16-oz. Busch beer, according to court records.

No really, this could happen to anyone who had taken a bunch of Oxycontin, Flexeril, and Dilantin and washed them down with beer.  I mean seriously, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, how could any reasonable person expect my client to take care of kids when he was that high?  My client is the real victim here!  The state is being completely unreasonable for expecting him to take care of young children in that condition!

I can't explain the baby cage at all, but if that medication was legal (don't care not reading the article) and it was his usual dose, well...the beer was really really stupid, they tell you that explicitly, loudly, and in no uncertain terms, but even without the beer if he hadn't ate enough that day or was just tired, or whatever that combo could easily throw someone for  a loop.  As for what it takes to get on that, I would assume a seizure disorder and a back injury.  Oxy and muscle relaxers seems to be preferred by most doctors rather than just enough oxy to kill a horse to mask the kind of pain back injuries cause.  He could just be a piece of shiat, too, no doubt, but yeah, weird things can happen with prescription drugs.

What's the point of taking the kids away? They'll just be back at "home" shortly. And thus perpetuate the cycle.

He lets two wander and the same bleeding hearts say, "Hey, raising kids free range is bad!"

There is nothing....absolutely nothing....that you can do that won't get libs frothing at the mouth.

Why are people that are pretty much by any measure that society uses. Irresponsibilty unable to function as normal members of life, so intent on reproducing?

2013-03-01 06:33:39 PM
I mean, was that really bad?  Did he do anything wrong?  I'm not sure I understand.  Aren't they his kids?  Either way, how do they prove the toddlers weren't responsible for drugging him and that they haven't blackmailed him into saying he took the drugs and alcohol voluntarily?  Why aren't those children sitting behind bars until we know for sure?  I, for one, will be double locking my front door from here on out.  If anybody comes knocking on my door, I'm calling the cops.  When the cops arrive I'll show them my knockers, but that's it.  And no way I'm letting them in the rear entry way.  If they're coming in, they're coming in through the front.

Time for FARK to rally to the dad's aid.

He needs rehab, not jail.
The foster care system will screw up the kids.
The system let the father down.

Shoot the dad, shot the baby mamma(s), sterilize the kids so the stupid gene ends here.

FTFA:

Defense attorney:

At a hearing Thursday, the man's defense attorney, Adam Haselgren, told the court his client had taken prescription medications and had passed out, but Haselgren said it was possible one of the children could have locked the girl in the dog crate while they were playing and then wandered outside.
"This is something that could happen to any parent or any baby sitter," he argued.

The judge:

But Caputo noted that police had to kick in the door to the house because it had been locked from the inside and doubted any of the children could have done that.
"Is a 3-year-old carrying a set of keys?"

There are children dying in need of organ donation.

I think I found the solution to at least a few of them. (Two lungs, one heart, two kidneys, pancreas and intestines, stomach, liver can be divided among several....)

2013-03-01 06:40:14 PM
Not discounting the tragedy, but at what point do you stop counting months and start calling them "years"? Is this a per family thing? Saying "22 months" instead of "nearly 2" or simply "2 years" seems a bit high to be referring to them as "X months."

I'll name it. It's public record and in other articles: Parents Erin Lewallen, 27, and William Lewallen, 47, from Tulsa, were both arrested

OK, this guy is a major piece of shiat and should be punished accordingly, but:

But Caputo noted that police had to kick in the door to the house because it had been locked from the inside and doubted any of the children could have done that. "Is a 3-year-old carrying a set of keys?" Caputo asked...

Are they arguing the guy locked his kid out of the house on purpose? He was probably passed out on the couch when one kid fled the building and another 3-year-old locked the door. You don't need keys to lock a door from the inside. My daughter (3 years old) turns the deadbolt all the time.

/which isn't amusing when I'm carrying groceries or other stuff into the house.

i.dailymail.co.uk

Since 1989, Lewallen has been named in eight felony cases in four counties. He was to remain on probation until December 2013 after being convicted of second-degree burglary in Osage County in 2003. Last August, he was given a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to a Tulsa County charge filed last year of possessing a precursor with intent to manufacture methamphetamine.

So it's like "Breaking Bad" except with toddlers covered in their own sh*t sitting in dog cages.

My 3 year old locked me outside a few days ago.  She can be a PITA sometimes.  Good thing she's cute ;-)

They just had a couple here in Georgia go to prison for 15 years for locking the lady's oldest son up for years until he turned 18, then giving him a few hundred bucks and a bus ticket to LA.

sandi_fish: If the door was locked, does that mean he locked the kids out?

Unless the other 3 year old got a chair and locked the door.  My brother did that once when he was four, locking himself in a building, buying himself two hours of play before he was found.

I am not defending the guy, he should've set the kids up safe if he stood the chance of falling asleep.  If you don't have someone else at least make sure the kids are squared away.  No cages.

Knowing from the experiences with my currently 17-month old of how much care and attention a young toddler needs (and how lovingly and willingly I provide it), stories like this make me stabby.

My boy means the world to me. I would rather be in agonizing pain than ever be in any state where he's locked out naked in the cold.
