Um, last I heard, human DNA makes up only about 10% of the DNA in the human body.  I'm assuming it's similar for other animals.  Notice they left out the percentage of DNA that came from cows (you presume it's 90% but bad news).  Does this mean that there's very little if any cow in this "beef"?

I'm beginning to wonder if I have ever eaten any actual beef at all in my entire life.

US Taco Bell consumers should be so lucky.  Only 70% of the "beef" they used here was from any animal, and that includes pink slime.

I doubt it, but it would be funny.

If I remember correctly, equines and bovines have different numbers of chromosomes, so a fairly simple test should be able to differentiate the two types. They're not exactly sequencing food product nuclei for a full genetic profile here...

The idea of eating beef is probably just as good as the real thing.

You could ask if she's got some horse meat in her taco.  If she says yes, drive away and do not pay.  If she says no, ask her if she'd like some.

There's some kind of squeamishness over horse meat that I think predates our generation because I sure don't understand it. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's like finding dog to some people. Also the fact that this is fraud on an enormous scale. If you don't even know what animal you're eating, you can't know where it came from or that it was safe for human consumption in the first place.

2013-03-01 08:08:54 PM
I have never tried taco bell. (Uk and dont live in the three shiatholes it is located) but if you pay minimum price for meat and expect premium beef and not s mish mash of any mammal protein, you need to re- evaluate your life

errr...wut?

Every single bit of your actual body is 100% human.  Then, there are parasites and bacteria...which absolutely do not add up to 90% of the volume of your body.  For any actual cells - stuff which has any DNA at all (versus plain ol' water, for example) - almost all of it is you.  And NONE of it would be "cow" or "horse."

If DNA for "horse" shows up then yes - that means it was from a horse.  Not a cow that had a lil' bit of horse hanging around in his leg, or some such thing - but actual *horse*

That said...I don't understand why people care.  Why is eating horse horrific, but eating cow or pig isn't?  Cows and pigs are every bit as smart as a horse - if not a bit smarter, in the pig's case.  Silly meat-eaters.

I don't hate Taco Bell, they're a marvel of mass production and mixing and matching an efficiently-small number of base ingredients into dozens of products.

I just don't generally like their food. Too expensive for what you get. Like most fast food these days.

/paying more than $5.00 for a fast food lunch is too much, given the quality

Human cells win on total volume, but are outnumbered 10:1 by bacteria.

Also, a decent chunk of so-called "human" DNA is actually just leftover retroviruses which infected our ancestors.

I stopped eating Taco Bell a couple years ago when I couldn't tell the "meat" tasted like anything more than sawdust mixed with used 30 weight. I ended up having to drive through one the other night when it was the least offensive option available besides actual starvation, and I'm pretty convinced they no longer mix in any sawdust.

The deal is getting what you think you are getting.  If I order a salad with romane, oranges, and green peppers, and it comes to me with red peppers, iceberg, and tomatos.. it's not what I expected to get, and therefore wrong.

If any of these places want to advertise that there is donkey, horse, dog, or wombat in the meat.. that's fine.

It's the sneaky shiat that won't stand.
