Um, last I heard, human DNA makes up only about 10% of the DNA in the human body.  I'm assuming it's similar for other animals.  Notice they left out the percentage of DNA that came from cows (you presume it's 90% but bad news).  Does this mean that there's very little if any cow in this "beef"?

I'm beginning to wonder if I have ever eaten any actual beef at all in my entire life.

I'm more worried about how often I might have eaten dog.

best use of the unlikely tag ever.

US Taco Bell consumers should be so lucky.  Only 70% of the "beef" they used here was from any animal, and that includes pink slime.

I doubt it, but it would be funny.

If I remember correctly, equines and bovines have different numbers of chromosomes, so a fairly simple test should be able to differentiate the two types. They're not exactly sequencing food product nuclei for a full genetic profile here...

The idea of eating beef is probably just as good as the real thing.

/Kind of like modern supermarket tomatoes.
/Perfectly round, perfectly red.

You could ask if she's got some horse meat in her taco.  If she says yes, drive away and do not pay.  If she says no, ask her if she'd like some.

Just wait for the uproar when Taco Bell admits that it's been mixing in a little horse all along and then a big expose piece reveals that their "horse" is actually cleverly disguised fracking fluid or something.

Who knows how long this has been going on. And since no one has died(unlikely regardless), or has complained otherwise. And since people that eat at places like Taco Bell, BK or processed crap at places like Ikea have obviously no real taste for what decent food may actually taste like.

Who the Frick Cares!!!

Well, they must have been looking harder than I ever did, because the last Taco Bell taco I ate looked and tasted like it was made of wax and TVP.

Carne de burro would be an improvement.

I have one question amid all these revelations - exactly how much extra horse meat is there to go around? A few burgers I can imagine, maybe even some sheets of lasagne, but now it's getting just ridiculous.

There's some kind of squeamishness over horse meat that I think predates our generation because I sure don't understand it. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's like finding dog to some people. Also the fact that this is fraud on an enormous scale. If you don't even know what animal you're eating, you can't know where it came from or that it was safe for human consumption in the first place.

2013-03-01 08:08:54 PM
I have never tried taco bell. (Uk and dont live in the three shiatholes it is located) but if you pay minimum price for meat and expect premium beef and not s mish mash of any mammal protein, you need to re- evaluate your life

errr...wut?

Every single bit of your actual body is 100% human.  Then, there are parasites and bacteria...which absolutely do not add up to 90% of the volume of your body.  For any actual cells - stuff which has any DNA at all (versus plain ol' water, for example) - almost all of it is you.  And NONE of it would be "cow" or "horse."

If DNA for "horse" shows up then yes - that means it was from a horse.  Not a cow that had a lil' bit of horse hanging around in his leg, or some such thing - but actual *horse*

That said...I don't understand why people care.  Why is eating horse horrific, but eating cow or pig isn't?  Cows and pigs are every bit as smart as a horse - if not a bit smarter, in the pig's case.  Silly meat-eaters.

after putting up with years of Taco Bells commercials featuring young fellows grasping food products in a Freudian homo erotic fashion as if they are about to gleefully deep throat the big meat i just don't care. obnoxious drunken frat boys deserve to eat spiced offal. you want a decent meal for $5.00 go support your local Chinese restaurant. morans.

I can't believe anyone is that worried about this. Hell, I'm a vegetarian and yet I assumed I've eaten horse somewhere by now.

It's horse, not something gross like kittens, cockroaches, or sea spiders (aka crab/lobster.)

It wasn't a question, nor an attempt to start a novel debate.  It was a statement of opinion, in which I sided with a well-established notion that all you people who think it is horrible to eat horses, dogs, etc - are nuts.  And just a wee bit narrow in focus.

I don't hate Taco Bell, they're a marvel of mass production and mixing and matching an efficiently-small number of base ingredients into dozens of products.

I just don't generally like their food. Too expensive for what you get. Like most fast food these days.

/paying more than $5.00 for a fast food lunch is too much, given the quality
