That's right Farkers, behold San Francisco! The greatest city in the world. I don't blame him for wanting to take pictures of it.

That was nice.  Mostly because I remember living in Sili Valley, on the side of a mountain.  The whole Santa Clara valley visible from my back yard.  Without going anywhere, 15 fireworks shows on the 4th of July.

Crazy expensive, though.   If you're pulling under $100/hr as a household, it's a squeeze.

no clever name here just move along: tilt shift is played out.

the miniture effect has to exploit DOF from a distance perspective (everything the same distance away should be in focus, the shorter the range that distance is, the more miniature it seems).  This is shot with areas of the frame out of focus, so things that are the same distance away could be in focus and out of focus.  It just doesn't work.

Please understand what you are trying to accomplish before you start.

That said, T/S lenses are great tools, not just gimmicky toys.  I actually think this video was miniaturized with software rather than hardware.

No idea what shift filtering is or why good/bad. But it made me wonder if I sound like I'm speaking gibberish to people when I talk about computers like you guys do to me atm. :)

The simplest possible answer is the things in the video are supposed to look like toys rather than real cars, buildings, people, etc.

It can be a neat effect when done right. This, on the other hand...

From someone who doesn't watch a lot of tilt-shift...I found it cool.

All the butt-hurt seems to be coming from the "Harumph!  He didn't do his tilt-shift vid like 10,000 other people have already done it, and appears to have branched out on an amateurish limb and doing it how he wants to do it" crowd.

sigh.

I think what they're trying to say is that this ISN'T a tilt-shift video.  It's a bunch of pictures he photoshopped.

Tilt shift is hard to do well.  And yeah, it looks better when it's done well.  A lot better than this.  Look for Bathtub IV on vimeo to see what I mean.
