It's a cute story, but this immediately made me crazy.

Two cats have free reign of a local courthouse

I love lazy news editors, especially when the article is almost word for word with the embedded video.

Boone County uses cats to keep courthouse clean

..except for that box of shiat they call a litterbox.

Boone is male and Panda is female, but you do not have to worry about more cats being born and joining the pair inside the Boone County courthouse. Panda has been spayed.

Does this mean Boone can go whore it up all over town, leaving kittens in his wake?

That is a big-ass dome. How farking big was Boone County in the age of ornate courthouses?

What is the news here? Isn't getting rid of vermin the reason cats were domesticated?

Wait... You're telling me that cats can be used to keep vermin away! Holy crap someone should tell every farmer in history.

How in the heck is this weird? Smart yes, weird no.

Panda has been spayed.

If I were them I would've had the male neutered, as well. Pretty soon he is going to start "marking" his territory and they'll be sayting they do not want!

So the courthouse is now a cat toilet.

Domesticated cats have been keeping human settlements vermin-free for, like, 10,000 years.

If they hadn't been killing rats, we never would have had enough agricultural surplus to invent beer, and then where would we be?

By Indiana standards for counties with a nontrivial county seat, that dome is only okay.

Thereby creating the need for cops, lawyers, and judges.
And, of course, a courthouse.

And the circle of life is complete.

If they really want to rid a courthouse of the worst kind of vermin, they need cats big enough to tackle and eat attorneys.

Skinner: ahh, but as it turns out the lizards where a god send since they've eaten all the pigeons.
Lisa: Isn't that a little short sighted, what happens when where up to our ears with lizards?
Skinner: Ah, well we shall simply release wave after wave of Chinese needles snakes.
Lisa: then what about the snakes?
Skinner: We simply import gorillas who will eat all the snakes.
Lisa: Well what happens when where up to our ears in gorilla's!
Skinner: Ah that's the beauty of the thing, come winter the gorillas will freeze to death.

Indeed. In fact it is generally believed that cats are maybe the only species to domesticate themselves.
With the booming vermin population, they moved into human cities of their own volition and started living alongside us.

I visited Morocco about a year ago and, in the very old parts of the cities, the medinas, cats are EVERYWHERE. People don't treat them as pests at all, though, and in fact I saw a few people who ran food stalls feeding them scraps. One thing I certainly DIDN'T see were rodents. Even though the dark, narrow, labyrinth streets with all sorts of nooks and crannies were exactly the sort of place you'd expect to see them, I didn't see a single rat or mouse in any of the cities I went to.

It is the job of Boone and Panda to look out the window for pigeons and then scare them off.

Courthouse employees like Tammey King find themselves stopping and staring, hoping to catch a glimpse.
"I do, yeah. (It's) not very often (that) you see them," said King. "They kind of hide I think."

Epic fail.

It would be correct if the cats ruled over them as king and queen... But, the phrase they were looking for was free rein...
