A poonful of sugar helps the men go down in a most delightful way.

When my friends older sister was a kid she broke her leg by jumping of the balcony of their house with an umbrella after watching Marry Poppins. So I'm getting a kick.

Wonder if he cleared this with the FAA?  They tend to not like it when objects are dropped out of the sky.  People they're cool with; hunks of metal not so much.

I don't really get these guys. They're just doing normal skydiving. People have jumped with bicycles and lawn chairs. It isn't special at all if you drop it and pull a chute.

I read that initially as "Dumb Way Stodie", like it was the nickname of some guy named Stodie.

Gonna go get more coffee now.

No commitment, he already planned to ditch the umbrella for the chute.  I disappoint.

Disappointed as nothing could go wrong with an adult willfully jumping out of a plane with only a patio umbrella.  Darwin has a sad.

And in an adjacent link in TFA, fear strikes deep in the hearts of Farkers when they noticed the headline that said, "Mom drowns son for having small penis."

Mom?  Don't come in here ma.  I'll wash it myself.  HAVEN'T YOU EVER HEARD OF SHRINKAGE MA?  Fer chrissakes, ma, I'll choke it myself!

Except this wasn't a plane he jumped from.

You know, I understand the thrill of all the daredevil stuff and all...  But there has to come a time when self preservation takes over and you realize you are just being stupid and careless.

CSB:  (Because I seem to have one for damned near everything)

I was at a meeting once (running tech crew) for AT&T (or someone).  They brought up this motivational speaker.  He went on and on for about 2 hours about his experiences climbing Mt Everest.  These experiences included losing 5 toes and 2 fingers to frostbite, and at least 15 of his friends falling to their death or freezing to death.  But HE made it.  That's what made it motivational.

Seriously, you f'n jerkoff!  What is motivational about that?!  Humans are not meant to go to that height!  If that isn't obvious to you by now, you are a complete fool.

Ahhh, you assumed I read the article.  The headline said skydive so I made a leap.

I have the same feeling about all of the "feel good" sports stories, where an athlete overcomes huge adversity to make it and become a professional.  While I understand the tragedy and why it makes people feel inspired, the person's success as an athlete has nothing to do with overcoming personal issues, it has to do with being genetically gifted.  It doesn't matter how many relatives I lost to drug addiction or schools I got kicked out of or how much glue I stopped myself from sniffing, unless I am stronger, faster, and have better reflexes than 99.9% of the population, I am not going to be a pro athlete.

The inspirational part of the story should be that they didn't off themselves or do something that landed them in prison, not that they can run fast with a ball or hit home runs.  Then again as Chris Rock said, if OJ didn't play football and drove a bus, he wouldn't even be OJ, he would be Orenthall the wife murdering bus driver.

Not a dumbass, not by Fark standards anyway.

He had a chute, didn't hurt himself or anyone else, and had some fun. What's the big deal?
