Oldman most recently starred in The Dark Knight Rises, and next stars in the Robocop remake for MGM.

Uh ... what?

Yeah. They're remaking RoboCop. 2014 release. Sam Jackson's also in it, apparently.

Loves me some Gary Oldman, dude can be a freaking chameleon and just melt into his characters. Hell I'll likely at least rent the new Robocop after it comes out based on him being in it, he's been in remarkably few stinkers and even then he wasn't what was wrong with them.

Some people make good movies.  Some people make movies for the cash.

Gary Oldman seems to do both at the same time.

//Robocop remake, you will probably make me eat those words.

I think they are going to go through about 3 different suits in the film.  That apparently is the OCP prototype that is featured early in the film.

//don't get me wrong, i have my serious doubts about the remake.
///part of what made the original work was the cheeky humor of the media minute clips of a slightly dystopian future set against the uber-violence of the real time narrative.  If they can capture that with an original take on the idea, we might have something, but i'm not holding my breath.

Agreed. He's one of the few "above the title" actors who doesn't just play himself. And he usually plays some farked up character. It was probably hard for him to play Commissioner Gordan as a regular guy.

And I don't want to shiat on someone else's work before I see it but are they really going to top the original RoboCop? I'm sure the CGI ED-209 will look more realistic than the stop motion one in the original, if that makes you feel better.

Let's see.  He's played Sid Vicious, Lee Harvey Oswald, Dracula, Beethoven, Pontius Pilate, Elvis, the Devil, and Gary Oldman.

/not too shabby

On one hand, Gary Oldman always delivers a great performance. On the other hand, he was in Lost In Space; one of the few big budget sci-fi movies that nearly made me cry because it was so awful.

I'll go see the movie anyway. I have a weakness for the Ape movies - even the one with Marky Mark, which wasn't as awful (in my mind) as everyone made it out to be.

I really liked Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It's not without its problems, but it set a good stage for a long story arc.

As long as it ends up somewhere besides that godawful Marky Mark Planet of the Apes remake, I think it'll be all right.

They seemed to be setting it up as the prequel to the original Charlton Heston film.  In the background of some scenes they have TV's talking about the Icarus space mission with the last report stating that the craft has gone missing.  The Icarus was the name of the ship in the first film, but not in the Marky Mark abomination.

I have mixed feelings regarding allowing you on my lawn, between your username and the fact you were born the year RoboCop came out.

Ruling on the field: you are permitted on the lawn, I get to hold my garden hose until the test of playing the arcade game is passed.

For a highschool english project, a group of us filmed a funny and stupid version the Great Gatsby. In the scene where the chick gets run over by the car, we cut to the Robocop scene of the cop car running over the acid-vat dude. It was awesome.

/csb

/we also used Weird Al's theme from Johnny Dangerously as our opening title music.

The Franco movie a year or two ago was surprisingly enjoyable, although not gonna lie that I didn't love the lab experimentation/monkey torture parts. Love Gary Oldman though so I'll check this out.

As far as Robocop, doesn't get my interest but since it has GO maybe it'll be worthwhile. I was pretty pleasantly surprised when I saw this:

There's a great Gary Oldman film called "The Firm" in which he plays a suited, proper middle class real estate agent who becomes a savage soccer hooligan on the weekends. Look it up.

I'm told that Oldman will play Dreyfus, leader of the human resistance after the apes have taken power.

And will be sent back in time to kill James Franco.

Why is everyone always circlejerking about the suit.  People complained about the new Batman suits and Batmobile and look how that turned out.

Haters gonna hate.  Robocop 1 was great, but the old franchise buried itself.  The old Chrome & Oil look worked in the 80s, but now it's 2013.  Let's make our own version of the story and not let ourselves become moribund neckbeards.
