So, by CBS's logic, no one should EVER DVR their shows? If you are not home, you should never be able to watch their programming at another time? I used to think NBC was the dumb network.

They just want to remove the fast forward button.

Waiting for the BB ep where Sheldon praises the Hopper.  That should be popcorn worthy.

CBS (or any network) doesn't give a rusty fark if you watch the shows. They are just filler between commercials.

they have already removed the fast forward button for On Demand stuff on CBS, now they want to remove that from DVR episodes too.

Oh, don't worry CBS. Just creat some more shows with big breasted women and you'll continue to win the ratings war regardless.

No, I think it's the fact that they are joint partners with Dish rival Time-Warner. (The two own CW) that's the problem.

Kind of like Alec Baldwin talking about the wonders of Visa when he a spoke's person for Capital One.

No, Visa and Capital One aren't competitors. Capital One ISSUES Visa cards. Visa creates revenue for Capital One, it doesn't destroy it. Think in terms of supporting something that might put you out of business.

It would be like Mike Rowe (who does spots for Ford) doing work for groups that are trying to ban cars (or at least impose draconian fuel mileage standards on them). Or Jerry Miculek (a pro shooter sponsored by Smith & Wesson) standing shoulder to shoulder with Diane Feinstein... it's the very meaning of "shiat where you eat."

The Dish Hopper's feature that pisses off companies like CBS is its auto-skip of commercials. Not just a fast forward through it (my DirecTV DVR has a 30 second FF... that's not the same). That eats into CBS's revenue stream (they make $ through commercials). With nothing but a regular fast forward (or a 30 second FF) you still see the commercial pass quickly and might even forget to skip forward so you might watch the commercial. With the Hopper you never even see the commercial (or so the technology supposedly works).

Her character is a waitress and aspiring actress who is stereotypically blonde; knowledgeable about pop culture and ignorant of science.

I'm sure they'll NEVER be able to find a replacement. There certainly isn't thousands of people exactly like that in every square mile of California.

Virtual Pariah: So they are doing the same thing I can do with Showanalyser and DVRMSToolbox, but they work in realtime?

Not familiar with those, but I'm assuming they're programs installed on a HTPC.

But to have the ability included into a set top box for a major TV provider and then sold on that ability is a rather significant thing.

What people can get away with in regards to programs for homebuilt HTPCs is not necessarily an overlapping subset with what major TV providers can get away with. The former isn't all that widespread. The latter will end up in millions of homes.

I agree.
I'm more interested in how easy to use it is.
With my set up, you record the show and then re-encode it against a schedule of when the commercials happened. Basically, it automates the stop/start function to remove the commercials.
Problem is, you are best off waiting for the next day or so to watch the show because it's batch processed overnight.

If this does the same thing in RT, I'd like to try it out.

I'm forced to watch it every now and then and it really is a terrible show. Yes, it's better than reality TV but that's like saying herpes is better than AIDS. And I would say that one guy is the most punchable person on scripted television but that would be classified as a hate crime so I'll just say he's annoying and leave it at that.

The networks need to get used to people avoiding their commercials eventually.

Wasn't the commercial aired when the show was aired?  CBS did their part and they should get paid, fair enough.  That was the deal the sponsor had with the network.
But-
Why should I have to watch the commercial if I'm watching the show on my own time?  It's my Hopper that's putting the show on my TV, not CBS.  You want me to show the damned commercial from my Hopper, you pay me, just like you pay CBS.

More pictures of Miss Cuoco please or stfu.

And this: CBS made CNET (I think - could have been some other relatively well known tech site they own) re-evaluate its choice for 'Best New Product' at CES a few weeks ago.

The 'BNP'? 'da Hoppa'.
