Was talking to a friend about NZ and basically my best way to describe it was "everywhere you go is beautiful, even Auckland has a beautiful place or two...... but stay out of Auckland."

Old Zealand had more interesting rides and a better giftshop.

I"ve been to NZ about 10-20 times now (family over there), and even though I always land at auckland, I've still never been there.  No real interest either.

Farking LOVE Rotorua though.

You can find glow worms in Dismals Canyon in NorthWest Alabama...a very small canyon which has it's own micro-climate--it's usually about 10 degrees cooler there and no mosquito (the worms eat them I think).
It's best to go in the summer they like lots of rain and warm weather. It's a pretty place; but only about 1/2 mile long. They filmed part of walking with dinosaurs there as it has a rather prehistoric look.

In the imockey blog they showed a picture of the little strings of silk the worms make to catch food. They let those out at night and 'fish' for flying insects attracted to the light. You'll occasionally get a face full of those when doing a night tour.

Zorbing is the shiznit. Did it in Tennessee a few years ago, both the dry and wet versions. Whee! They should have it in Orlando, but people here are afraid of ground they can't see over.

It looks like they only did the north island. The south island is where it's at. Was there in September, and we landed in Auckland. There are some neat places around Auckland- Waiheke, etc. Went to Wellington, which was only so-so. Only had 36 hours there so no time to really see anything, though did meet Owen Franks and Isreal Dagg from the All Blacks. Then we went to the south island. Wow. Just unbelievable. Putting away money every month to go back again.

Rotorua is awesome, don't waste your time in Aucks, it's just dreadful. One Tree Hill is beautiful if you need to kill some time before a flight, but that's about it.

Being a South Islander, I was kinda thinking he might regret missing my part of the country, but given he seems to really like vulcanism, the North Island is the best option and it sounds like he has no regrets. Anyway, it gives him something else to focus on in a second trip.

Wellington is a good place, though. I'd like to move back there.

I fell in love with that place, as well as with a girl from there.  But that's a story for another thread.
