Temp threadend but not for long. Need lunch for all & to get to rehearsal in time. Fooey.
Also meant to comment on GoGo being messy -- thought that was a privilege reserved for young male cats. Boys of GangOf5, Stripe & Jimmy, scatter chow in all directions when they eat.

yobbery: Websites and software developers seem to be dumbing down anymore.

I'm pretty sure the eXtreme Dumbing Down started with the advent of GUI.

Today's average internet user's intelligence, as explained by a cat:

domari: Oh, man, this got me weepy. I volunteer for a local shelter up at the nearby Petsmart, and the older cats that obviously had homes at one time are the saddest. And they tend to stay the longest. *excuse me while I go find a tissue*

I was just thinking about that today. Kitten season is starting, I have 5 kittens not even old enough to leave and a dozen people who want them. I have several dozen adult cats, and nobody who wants them. The adults move out so slowly, perfectly good, healthy, sweet, friendly adult cats, sitting there waiting every day. People just want what's young and cute whether it be a human or animal companion.

I have no more room left to take in any more adult cats, so they'll wind up dead in the shelter because everyone wants kittens instead. What a shame.

I was in local Petco yesterday restocking our gooshies. The local adoption group had 4 cages: 2x 10 week old kittens, 2x 8 week olds, 1x 2 yr old, and 1x 1.5 yr old. The adult cats were ignored by all but me (talked to them and gave skritches). Everyone else was loving on the kittehs. Came home and hugged Eos, the 7 yr old (now 8) special needs that we adopted last. Spoke to the adoption lady, she told me the 2 yr old had been returned that morning. The previous adopter could no longer keep the cat. So sad. I can't imagine the heartbreak of having to give up my pets.

I love beardies, I just don't have the resources to care for them appropriately, so I don't have one. I beardie-sit for a guy, tho. His beardie is a male named "Mr Sketch". I forget how old Mr Sketch is, but he's gotta be up there in lizard years because he's very large. I'd never seen one that big before. He's got his own harness and leash and goes for walkies around the neighborhood or out to go shopping from time to time. He digs on going out, too. Especially if there's asphalt him to bask on - and there's plenty of asphalt in cities!

Every time I see your bearded dragons I'm reminded of the 3 my oldest niece had when she was about 14. My niece was explaining how one of them had died. She told me "He had been depressed for awhile"(Who knew lizards got depressed)and when she came home from school one day she found him face down in the water dish. She said "Obviously he committed suicide".
My sister asked her "Are you sure it wasn't murder? There are two others in the tank." My niece was horrified because she hadn't even considered murder. She ended up selling her dragons to a friend from school because whether it was murder or suicide she didn't want them anymore and she felt they should go to a home where they wouldn't have a past.
Yes my niece is a bit of an odd ball but like I've told her before every family needs an eccentric relative and she's the one for her generation. We won't discuss who's the eccentric one in my generation.

Didn't know anything about them or that they even existed until I came home from a deployment and had to take my daughter to the store to get one for her birthday.  Sage has been with us for over 2 years now, and he's about 3 feet long.  Rosemary is smaller by about a foot, but still big for a lizard.  They don't like coming out much, but get out once a week usually and move a little on the floor, but mainly just look around and stay still.

My first cat (Grey) would sit in a tree branch that hung over the street, waiting for me to come home from work.
As I drove down the street his eyes would glow in the headlights with the same color and intensity as the cat on the left.

Urgh. Sleep was good last night, but intermittent. Probably around three- or four-ish Sassy jumped up on the bed, walked up my leg and chest to chirp in my face, then hopped off and strolled across the bed to the desk next to it to chew on a plastic bag that I'd left there yesterday. After blearily rolling over and shooing him off, I passed out again for a bit until he did it again a few minutes later. Some hours after that, Bluecheez, my MiL's cat who is finally feeling better after being a bit ill and "blah" the past couple of weeks decided that she wanted to drink straight from the cup of water on my desk instead of the bowl on the floor filled with the same water. I woke up to my computer monitors turning on because she had bumped the mouse and trod on the keyboard, and I was able to remove her before she did any damage. The second time I wasn't as quick when she did the same exact thing but caused the cup to somersault over the keyboard and land on the floor, scaring herself off. Fortunately, the cup only had a little bit left at the bottom and is hard plastic, so there was no mess to clean up. GAH. At least Sonny was being quiet, curling up on the pillow next to mine, sphinxing out and purring as he dozed off.

And the boys also know that I will let them out if they "ask." Normally they have a kitty-door of sorts, but there's an unfixed tom in the area who began coming into the house, eating the food, peeing on things, and hissing at them. (They're normally chill about other cats and they do NOT like him at all!) Therefore we've had to block that entrance let them in and out manually. A few minutes ago Sassy trotted into the room, chirped at me, and after I gave him ear scritchies he padded to the bedroom door, stopped, and looked at me expectantly. I followed him to the back door where he sat down and trilled at me again, and happily ran outside when I opened it for him. Sonny dashed out behind him, giving me a look of "well, it's about time!" I'm not too worried about them being out too long or getting "locked out"; Sassy's howl can be heard through closed doors (amazing, since he has such a tiny little "mew" normally), and they do come when I call for them if they hear me. I laughed when I called for Sassy the other night and he galloped from the far backyard to the door. I didn't think that a cat of his size could move that fast!

No new pics in a few days, have a repost from a week or two ago, to make up for Sunday Afternoon Ramblings. Time for more tea and more studying. Yay!

domari: tigerose: Happenstance

I went to buy cat food.
A flat of cans,
In the form my cat likes.

And there,
I found two shelter cats.
Depressed.

No longer looking to interact.
Ignoring their toys.
Sad.

Their sorrow
Radiates.

They no longer believe,
No hope.

They are not kittens.
They are so handsome,

It makes me weep.

I want to put on their cages a sign,
"Take me home,
I am for you!"

One surrendered  cat speaks.
I am older, wiser,
I know what comfort a lap holds.

I know how to make you laugh,
Lift your spirits.

My fur is thick.
I can hold your tears.

I want to be with you.
No other will do.
Take a chance,
Take me home.

Into your heart.
There I will dwell.
All the days of my life.

And at the end of my days,
I will keep you in my heart,
Cherish you in my soul,
And rejoice.

tigerose 3/1/13

I think I'm going to print this out and hang it in the cat room at Petco where Lilly is waiting for a new family. She was found in a parking lot, all dirty and scared. Now  she's just sad, she doesn't want to be there. But all the kittens are getting adopted and nobody looks at her.

I don't know why I can't get any photos from Flickr to post here any more and I give up trying,  so if you want to see sad Lilly, click on the link.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/littlemews/8524023208/" title="Lilly by Little Mews, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8520/8524023208_5d63a3f4ac.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Lilly"></a>

The you posted is working for me and if I was able to, I'd adopt Lilly in a heartbeat. But alas we're not allowed to have pets where I live.

yobbery: Mrs CDK: Testing a free photo sharing site. SlickPic doesn't seem too bad but it tags all the photos i share. I don't think I like that "feature". Oh well, I am paid up on PB until August so I have plenty of time to figure this out...

[bulk-share.slickpic.com image 500x333]

I didn't find any free sites that tickled my fancy. I ended up with a SmugMug subscription and so far I have no regrets. I also read many forum posts giving high praise for ZenFolio,

I'm paid up on PB until April, but I'm deleting my account at the close of this thread to drive home my displeasure.

Yeah, me either, I think I will just stick it out with PB until it expires and then see how things look. Maybe I'll be able to upgrade to smugmug by then.
