SNIP

The California Supreme Court said in 2008 that the state had to allow same-sex marriage, and for a short period, some 18,000 same-sex couples wed in the Golden State. But with the passage of Prop. 8 later that same year, gays and lesbians were later prohibited from marrying. Various lower courts said the law was unconstitutional, with the most recent one determining such a fundamental right like marriage, that gays and lesbians had once enjoyed, could not be taken away.

Bolded for importance.

We should never let any right be taken from us.

It is not a right, it  is a licensed activity regulated by the state.  Now if you want to argue that same gender restriction should be lifted with regards to that fine but don't call it a right.

It's nice that everyone from Obama to Eastwood says that Proposition 8 is a bad thing.

Was there any particular reason they were unable to unable to say that before it was passed?  Is there any particular reason that we the voters have not yet been given a Proposition Undo-8 on the ballot?

abhorrent1: His politics are confusing.

Not terribly confusing.  The social and religious conservatives that the GOP let run the party into a wall in the early 2000s are just losing power because they don't win elections, and Clint was a Republican way before that.  Even reliable wedge issues like abortion are seen more as an embarrassment now, even if you are legitimately pro-life.

As long as a couple who are straight allowed to wed then partners who are gay should have that right, too. There are two choices: extend or eliminate marriage as a government function completely.

Obama was opposed to it, and a ballot measure is expensive.  The expectation seems to be that the courts will overturn it on their own.

If you have the mentality of "for us or against us, no matter what" (Farkers, I'm looking at you) that may seem confusing. Jeebus, people, think for yourselves...just because you're affiliated with a group doesn't mean you have to agree with everything they say. Good on Clint for standing up for what's right.

Mostly if you're bi. err, I mean dichotomous.
He remains a hard core individualist with bootstrappy delusions. It's pretty easy to predict what he will say.

It's the people who follow a party line that are confusing.

2013-02-28 06:41:25 PM
Some Republicans are catching up with where the rest of the world was decades ago... That's wonderful.

2013-02-28 06:41:34 PM
This is more in line with Eastwood's politics. That incident at the Republican national convention was totally out of character. It is almost like he meant to derail the republicans.  It has always struck me as odd that he is a Republican.  If you listen to him talk about politics away from cameras he sounds like a moderate democrat.  I think he is caught between his public persona and the private reality.

If a bunch of queers and dykes want to go and ruin their lives by getting married well then fark them.  Let 'em do it and suffer like the rest of us.  I draw the line at marrying critters.  The poor critter doesn't know it's getting saddled with a lunatic.
