He played like crap last season.  This shouldn't even be a discussion for a team in rebuilding mode.  I can't remember the exact numbers, but if they cut him this year the will clear like 6 mil in cap.  Not even sure if you can trade at this point.

Bitter Polish Adjutant: Don't let the door hit him in the asomugha on the way out.

I like what you did, but I think "don't let the door hit your Asomugha out" works a little better.

TLF....fair enough. I blame mobile formatting, and shallow thinking. And well, bitterness brought on by lousy cornerback play.

Maybe if the Eagles try two or three more defensive coordinators with totally different schemes for a month or two each this year they can hit on one that works.

When he clears waivers someone will get a steal if they're not idiots like Philadelphia was. You don't sign a shut down man to man corner to a huge deal then have him play a zone coverage scheme. Granted He knew that was the scheme they were running before he signed with them so he shares the blame. Would take him back in Oakland in a heartbeat if we had some cap room to work with.

He was an amazing player for the Raiders; have to wonder if he "cashed out" with the Eagles, just hit the 30-wall, or both.  The Eagles having a more embarassing defensive gameplan/coordinator than the Raiders didn't help, either.

Amazing. Nnamdi made a player who:
a) was out most of the season AND
b) plays for the JETS!!!
look good by comparison.

Remember when there was this big debate about who was the best corner?

Hmmm seems like he'll be pretty fine no matter what, based on his wiki page. Nice when your philanthropy section is as long as your playing career section in wikipedia, especially if you're a several-time All-Pro.

It's tough to say - he's clearly a "man" corner and they played a sh*tload of zone. It's one of the things that pisses me off about Seattle - it seems like every time they go zone, they're getting torched. YOU HAVE GIANT CORNERS WHO CAN MANHANDLE ANY WR, STOP MAKING THINGS DIFFICULT.

/I suppose I understand the necessity of mixing up coverages, but it's still frustrating

I was terrified the Cowboys were going to end up with Asomugah. Not because I predicted his apparently precipitous decline, but because I didn't want them dealing with that albatross of a contract. The Cowboys are somewhere near 15mil over the cap currently - I can't imagine how absolutely farked they would be today if they had signed him.

Then I was terrified that he'd go to the Eagles and make the Cowboys pay for not signing him... I just never imagined the Eagles would so spectacularly fail that they could make Nnamdi look bad *regularly*. I sort of felt bad for the guy. At times it looked like he really did just get beat, but other times you could tell he was half-heartedly chasing down a guy who was not his responsibility and the only reason he's in the shot is because he was the only guy even in the general area of that blown coverage.

Really, best case scenario for your team.

Next up - Giants don't resign Martellus Bennett because of Eli's contract, Redskins can't draft a receiver to help poor little Bobby and his legs.

Ideally Martellus would continue playing for the Giants, but not against the Cowboys. Guy was (and probably still is) an absolute headcase and until he proves me wrong a waste of freakish ability. Sure showed up against the Cowboys though.

The biggest problem with Jerry is that he lacks the jumping ability to really cover those taller wideouts and still help out in run support.

"I... uh... I can really go about the... uh... covering. What I mean to say is that as it pertains to... uh.... covering wide receivers, as a system and as an organization my... uh... covering is acceptable... no- more than acceptable. When I- uh we go about covering a speedy... uh... receiver we really want to, as the saying goes, cover that man. I feel that I, uh... Receivers that can be doing the running and the jumping... I can, uh, do that."

I'd take a chance on him with the Bears, especially now that the Bears' D is moving away from the zone-based scheme that they've run the past decade. Also, Tillman is a zone cornerback and sucks at man coverage, so you slide him to safety and put Nnamdi in there and you've vastly improved the secondary.

Haven't helped him? Could you understate that any more if you *tried*?

Let me take a wild stab at this: You've never played a down of football at all, much less at DB/WR?

*sigh

I don't know if he knew at signing that he would be changing into a zone scheme defense, and frankly I don't care. He's demonstrated time and again already that, in press/bump man to man coverage, he's among the best in the business. In a zone scheme with shiatty surrounding cast and dipshiat coaching, you saw exactly how he adjusted.

In man coverage, he's top 3 in football. He WILL neutralize your #1. In a bad scheme with bad coaching, he's meh at best.

But stop this ridiculous "Oh, he's shiatty" banter. He isn't. He may be a shiatty zone cover corner in a bad defensive scheme, yea, but if yer gonna say that....SAY THAT.

Because when healthy and on his game he puts butts in seats and can carry a football team to the playoffs like few can.  It's not like the NFC East is some unwinnable power conference, either.

Putting butts in seats has nothing to do with it.

"When he's healthy" hasn't exactly been very often lately. And even when healthy he wasn't really lighting it up with his play.

The only reason he's back is because Foles doesn't fit Kelly's offense.

Asomugha is probably still the best man to man CB in the league. Too bad the Eagles are idiots and didn't let him play that way. He was clearly a square peg in a round hole of a defense. And by round hole, I mean ass. As a Raider fan, I wish the guy all the best. He's one of the classier guys in the league and does a ton of charity work.

Juan Castillo, the O-Line coach, was "promoted" to DC for the 2011 season. (read: the Eagles goofed around for so long trying to find a new DC, even though they arguably shouldn't have fired the previous one, that all of the good candidates went elsewhere.) His defense wasn't good, but it wasn't horrible either. He was also in charge for the first 6 or 7  games of the 2012 season, when the defense was actually improving somewhat - but, he was the scapegoat for a team that was losing. (Even though said losses were mostly due to Vick and the offense being unable to find the endzone, and the "special" teams living down to their name.) The defense got tremendously worse after he was fired, to the point that they actually had something like 5 consecutive opposing QBs end up with a 120+ rating, including RG3 with an unofficial (he didn't have enough pass attempts) perfect rating.
