I'm going Dolan, Carrera (who always hustles harder against Canucks), Maradiaga and Sandri in the Americas, Erdo and Scola in Europe, Onaiyekan, and my upset pick, Turkson, in the Asia and Africa bracket.

/don't see Turkson knocking off the #1 seed, though

Erdo over Ravasi? What, is burning your money taking too long?  Everybody knows Ravasi is a monster in the first round.

Looks like Scola is the odds-on favorite, but Turkson is in the mix and Bertone isn't too far away.

It will be Scola or Ravasi.  It's been too long since we've had an Italian Pope.  And you know they'd never ever ever ever pick an American.

Let's go Marc Ouellet in 2013!

http://www.policymic.com/articles/25701/marc-ouellet-5-facts-about-t he -potential-next-canadian-pope
"(On abortion) In May 2010, Ouellet stood by, "even in the case of rape," and urged the federal government to help pregnant women keep their child. Having earlier applauded Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government for its stance against funding abortions in the developing world, he added, "if they do not want to fund abortion abroad and they do not bring home more help to women to keep their child, I think they are incoherent."

If there were campaigns to become The Potato his slogan would be "Business as usual."

I think everyone is sleping on some serious mid-major cardinals and I've got Cardinal George from Chicago as my Cinderella , knocking off Dolan in the play-in game and then making a run all the way to the white smoke.  But Ialso think Cardinal Pell of Australia made a strong statement today by knocking off the former winner and could make a run if the other cardinals haven't been properly coached up to handle the pressure

Please.  Nobody like to talk about it, but there still is a lot of prejudice in the upper ranks of the Church.  Do you seriously think they'll ever let a CANADIAN be pope?  And not just a Canadian but a FRENCH-Canadian?   Please.

More than 100 Roman Catholic cardinals will gather in the Sistine Chapel in March. One will emerge as pope.

Not strictly speaking true. They can pick pretty much any male Catholic who is or could become eligible to be a bishop. (That basically translates to "unmarried.") Doesn't have to be a cardinal, a bishop, or even a priest, for that matter. Although depending on how low on the org chart you are, there might have to be some hasty ordinational jiggery-pokery to satisfy canon law.

Papal elections would be more interesting if they  couldn't choose a cardinal, but I guess I understand why making the process more interesting is not high on the Church's list of priorities.

I hereby announce my candidacy for the Cardinal Rumble.  I, PONTIFICUS REX;  The Confessor of Carnage, The Innovator of  Inquisitorial Violence, the Pontifex of Pain, Shall enter the Chapel, Brother,  and I will walk out Miter on head and Crosier in hand as the next Pope, and all the broken husks of the blood red stained cardinals will kneel before me and kiss the Ring as I begin my Dark Rule of 1000 years.  I will be a Cruel and Terrible Pope,  Raining down Destruction with my Vaunted Swiss guard and their newly modified Laser Halberds and Vatican Issue Power Armor made to look in my fearsome, nude Visage.  Soon the world Will tremble at the Very Mention of my name.  Soon.....

Oh most definitely I know. It's just sad how I can't even support a Canadian contender on the basis they're just as medieval minded as the next guy.
Here I thought we retarded brothers in the north were a bastion of socialism, alcoholism and progressive thinking; yet we can't even pull out a progressive-thinking religious leader candidate.

It's funny because if you play by the hotness of players wives/girlfriends you could easily have one of the lowest scoring seasons on record. Well, except with Gisele.

Recent popes were chosen on the basis of an outrageous foreign accent. We've had a Polish pope who sounded like Bela Lugosi, and a German pope who sounded like a mad scientist. I'm going with a Frenchman or a Swede this time.

The Swedish pope: bork bork bork!
