Drinking is nice and all, but if I have to get drunk to enjoy spending time with people, it's a good sign I should find different people to hang out with.

Benjamin Orr: Hobart is by no means an alcoholic, but since he first started sneaking the occasional beer with his school friends aged 13, alcohol has been an ever present feature in his life.

Tat'dGreaser: You don't drink, good for you. Don't act like you're better than someone else. It's like there is no medium with these people, you either have to drink all the time or not at all. It is possible to drink once in awhile.

I think it's hilarious every time someone nags me about drinking.

I drink maybe 4 times a year, and only a few drinks as I don't like getting all that drunk.

But hey, I had a drink in my hand, I must be an alcoholic, right?

I believe the general rule is that alcoholics wake up in the morning and need a drink. If you goes several days at a time without drinking, you aren't an alcoholic. Maybe a binge drinker, but not an alki.

I'm an alcoholic in that sense, but I mostly do it because I want to drink something that isn't coffee or tea, and I dropped soda pop years ago. Got bored with all that. A beer has fit the bill when I have a case around, or a class of wine when I don't. There are actual aesthetic qualities about it that you just can't get from water, though you obviously should work out if you're going to be beering it up.

In the same way I'll sometimes start off the morning with Doritos instead of real food.

I just roll with it... "You're an alcoholic!"  "Yes I am."  *take a sip*
They're so used to people denying it that when you agree, they don't know what to say.
