I think ole Bob's about six months from going public about his alien abduction.  He's got splinters in the windmills of his mind.

He'll regret saying those things?

Depends on if he has any shame or not.

Jesus, what happened to this guy?

I mean, I know people tend to drift conservative as they get older, but he went from "skeptical centrist" to "devoted GOP lapdog", over the course of a couple years apparently just because the Bush administration showed him some preferential treatment.

Maybe all Nixon needed to do was take him out for dinner and a movie or something.

Actually, they don't. Common misconception, but old people are frequently more liberal than the young. See, they've seen bad things happen, up close and personal, and understand that other people might need help and so forth.

You know, out of context that quote could very easily mean "You're going to regret this [because it makes you look like an idiot]." Woodward might seriously think it is a threat b/c he's been so used to politicians licking his ass for the last decade or so he can't deal with any sort of push back.

I've read one of his "Bush" books. I have no idea why anyone takes this man seriously.

It doesn't matter, most of the public outside of the bubble are siding with President Obama. Did President Obama "move the goaposts"? If he did he just brought them back from the baseball stadium's "right field" and back into the football stadium; because thanks to the GOP the goalposts have earned a ton of frequent flyer miles by how much they have moved them. In many ways the GOP has given President Obama card blanche in doing stuff like that to them. By "crying wolf" on so many non-controversies; the non-bubble public have become desensitized to Republican finger pointing at President Obama. Now they mostly roll their eyes at the accusations, even when true. It seems whining about Obama is all conservatives seem to do.

Then there is this pesky little issue about the majority of Americans agreeing with President Obama's balanced "solution" over the Republican solution of shifting all cuts to the non-military spending. The fact that the Republicans do not have the balls to name the cuts but are trying to pass the buck to the President and Senate is not helping their cause. Americans are aware of the hypocrisy of crying "constitution" all the time yet trying to force their constitutional mandated responsibility on the "other guys" also.

Dear Bob, you know how we all know your are full of shiat?

If you did get an email, you would have forwarded it to every media outlet in the US.

2013-02-28 07:15:25 AM
This is more sad than anything else.

2013-02-28 07:16:48 AM
"It makes me very uncomfortable to have the White House telling reporters, you're going to regret doing something that you believe in."

It would make me uncomfortable to if they were saying you would regret reporting something.  That is not what you were doing.  You were acting as a commentator and you are free to have and voice an opinion but that does not have to be free from consequences.

Lol, the WH already admitted the story was true, they said they meant "he'll regret being wrong about what was said".

Right.

How about you just stop lying about everything, Barack? Not everyone makes every decision based on polls, or concludes that winning an election is a mandate to avoid spending cuts when the govt is borrowing nearly a trillion dollars this year. If you can't lead then get out of the way.

2013-02-28 07:21:22 AM
Woodward makes sensationalist claims to get attention, and this is a surprise? The quality of his work started going downhill with Wired. When Veil came out, it was pretty clear he was just selling hype to pay for his Porsche repair bills.

It's kind of sad Bob thought he had to reduce himself to this, just to stay relevant.

Maybe they just meant that they'd you know... take away his exclusive access to everyone?  Woodward's career as a journalist would be essentially over at this point if he was deemed persona non grata by the administration.  That doesn't hurt his 1st amendment rights at all, but I'm sure he would regret it.

To use Obama's own analogy, he is using a scalpel instead of a sledgehammer on the budget. Except, instead of using that scalpel to remove the malignant tumors in the budget, he is using it to remove vital organs for political posturing.

It's absolute madness to blame Republicans for the sequestration cuts...  The Democrats wanted to raise taxes off of historic lows, and that would have just punished the job creators and expanded the size of the government.  How is it not absolutely transparent to everyone with a junior high education that you can't begin to pay back a debt incurred by simultaneously lowering taxes ("temporarily" lowering taxes) and engaging in two wars, regardless of your position on how necessary said wars may be without raising any new income.

You have a family where both the husband and the wife work, the both make modest salaries and lead a modest lifestyle.  The wife becomes pregnant with twins, and eventually takes an (unpaid) maternity leave, while the family begins purchasing the battery of new accessories they'll need for their upcoming bundles of joy (putting the whole thing on their credit cards, of course).  Now the family is taking in half what they used to, but the refuse to meaningfully reduce their lifestyle expenditures--sure, they'll shave a few percent of their tips when they go out to eat, maybe only purchase their artificially price-inflated fresh organic produce only three times a week instead of four (how could you expect them to live, otherwise?), but none of the cuts are really meaningful.  The twins arrive, there are more mouths to feed, interest from the credit card bills is stacking up, but the man refuses to let his wife go back to work.  "No minimum wage hack will raise my children!  It's un-American!" he declares, while continuing to charge more and more onto the few credit cards he has yet to max out.

His wife begs him to let her get back into the workforce--even if only part time, just so they have a little more income coming in.  "Hell no!" the man cries, we'll just cut back--the kids don't need their vaccinations, and doctors are expensive, I'm sure they'll be alright once they can get their own jobs and pay for their own healthcare.  Also, why do they need this special food and formula, they can just pick at the remains price-inflated fresh organic produce that we would be throwing out anyway, I'm sure there'll be plenty left.  "Maybe we can exchange the Hummer for something a little more economical..." says the wife, but "Not a chance!" yells the man, becoming increasingly irate.  "Without our massive symbol of power, our neighbors will think that we've become weak and soft!  Plus, how can we protect our children, who we love so very much, if we don't encase them in an impenetrable armored box capable of surviving a head-on collision at speed with all our neighbors cars with merciless efficiency!" the man is barely even making sense at this point...  "All of our neighbors drive Geo Metros..."  the wife whimpers, fearful at her husbands sudden lack of sanity "...I don't think there is any danger to our children there."  "YOU JUST HATE OUR CHILDREN, YOU CALLOUS biatch!" froths the man, a vein bulging in his neck.

"Can our children at least eat tonight?" the woman begged, now fearful for her own safety.  "THEY CAN EAT WHATEVER I DON'T--I AM THE WAGE EARNER IN THIS FAMILY, THE FOOD IS MINE UNLESS I ALLOW IT TO TRICKLE DOWN TO THEM!" screeched the man, one of his eyes skewing slightly to the side as he claws rabidly at the upholstery.  At this point, the woman takes the children out of the house and as far away as she can.  In the ensuing divorce proceedings, the judge finds that while the husband was indeed acting a bit crazy, that he should still have the absolute right to deny any request that the woman should make (afterwards the judge went back to yelling in a drunken stupor at his reality TV show that he didn't feel necessary to turn off during the proceedings).

Now the wife, saddled by a mountain of bad debt from her marriage, with a husband who calls to scream misogynist slurs and incoherent gibberish 10 times a day, is trying desperately to care for her kids.  Now, she's inexperienced when it comes to a lot of matters of family finance and she makes a lot of rookie mistakes--she paid sticker price when she bought her new car (and allowed the salesman to upsell her to that solar powered air conditioner that broke down about a month after she got it), she pays way much to the extensive staff that she's hired to look after her kids, and she dotes on them pretty terribly.  Despite her husband calling to sabotage every job interview she sets up, she's finally working again (albeit at part time), and starting to make a dent in the bills that are piling up.  She would like to go back to work again full time and bring another full, stable income to the table, but her husband is threatening (amid having an epileptic seizure on the floor) to call the judge and take the kids back if she does so--and there's a good chance the judge would allow it.

Because the credit card companies were getting a little bit irate about the debt stacking up, the now ex-husband and wife were forced together again to discuss paying some of the debt off.  The woman wants nothing more than to go back to working full time, as painful as it would be for her children, while the man decides the best thing to do would be to simply stop paying their bills.  That didn't go over too well the the credit card company, so after being smacked around with some penalty charges and a bit of a sovereign debt downgrade, the man and woman reached an agreement to come to an agreement later...  or else.  The woman pled with the man to let her go back to work full time (again), and the man flatly refused (again), demanding instead that the woman instead move to a smaller house with no air conditioning, no nanny, and that the children only be allowed to eat every other day (they were eating so much at this point, you'd think they were growing!).  As there was evidently no middle ground between the sacrifices of the woman putting in a few more hours at work, and the woman moving to a shack in a third world country, they both threw up their hands and put themselves at the mercy of the agreement to make an agreement that they had both signed.

Repo-men are now poised to seize a number of the woman's appliances--they'll leave her a refrigeration though, so she's not poor, while other repo-men are poised to seize the man's boat.  He doesn't get out on the boat nearly as often as he'd like, and it mostly sits around at the marina racking up storage fees that go straight to his credit card, but there is still no way he will stand for this.  "THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!  ...I REITERATE, WHAT WILL THE NEIGHBORS THINK WHEN I HAVE NO BOAT!?" the man screams, going back into a fit of epileptic rage.  "You have two other boats...  I think you'll be fine." the woman mutters, a scowl crossing her face.

A reporter happens to be walking through the room, observing this particular scene--a reporter of great renown and respect, mostly earned for a lucky break he managed to catch 40 years ago.  As the reporter shakes his head, he mutters "What a heartless, insensitive biatch that woman is...  How dare she..."  The woman, in a moment of weakness snaps and throws a balled up piece of paper at the reporter, who promptly collapses to the ground, screeching and crying about how she was oppressing him, before running outside to tell all who would listen his story of woe.

Truly, that woman is satan incarnate, and she must be stopped.

Lapdog is the right word.

And its pretty obvious now that Woodward is not a media lapdog like Chris Matthews or, for example some Fox commentators for GW Bush.

Obama's being called on trying to make a different deal with more taxes because he thinks he's Mr. Popular, and all he needs to do is go on the road giving speeches.
