i'm pretty sure ashley judd and most other mainstream dems were quick to condemn this. when was the last time a republican leapt forward to condemn something said by the tea party?

In years past, opponents have questioned McConnell's relationship with his father-in-law, James Chao, who owns Foremost Maritime Corp., a New York-based shipping company. The business has trade connections to China and Chao's father has ties to its government.

And this is where they erred. If there is a legitimate connection to foreign officials, focus on that connection rather than accusing someone, a former US cabinet member of labor no less, of simply being born somewhere. Mitch McConnell is a horrible person and has a direct connection to his wife's father. There's no reason to drag his wife's name through the mud without something substantial to back it up.

Hell you won't even see any GOP leaders condemning what Scalia said today.

2013-02-27 11:20:10 PM
Nope, it is racist when they do it, and the difference is, you'll see damn near everyone on "the left" coming out to acknowledge it and shame the hell out of the people who made the thing.

Actually dumbass subby, it's wrong when anyone does it. That's the point the GOP with their situational morality don't seem to understand.

It was racist and disgusting and immediately condemned by the progressives.

FTFA: Other messages from Progress's social networking account about Chao have run for the past several days, saying her "Chinese (money)" is buying state elections. According to campaign finance records, members of Chao's family donated $80,000 to the Kentucky GOP last year.

Nativism is a time-honored American tradition that knows no partisan boundary. Reactionaries and Progressives alike have appealed to its Populist power. The real scandal is that a woman of any ethnicity actually has to fark Senator Turtle.

It wasn't subtle enough that you were being sarcastic. Next time, use Comic Sans.

It's not racism. Racism is the belief that one race is superior to another. This is an example of nationalism.

Hell, TPM was bashing it even before the GOP had noticed it.

While I don't support attacking anyone because of their race, I don't see how thinking there may be a vested interest in outsourcing jobs to China by showing ties to Chinese shipping mogels is racist.

In years past, opponents have questioned McConnell's relationship with his father-in-law, James Chao, who owns Foremost Maritime Corp., a New York-based shipping company. The business has trade connections to China and Chao's father has ties to its government.

Liberal individuals and organizations have been piling on these assholes all day.

Unlike when Rush Limbaugh says something offensive and the brave "conservatives" are fkn silent about it. Because history shows that if you do take a stand against a "conservative" asshole being an asshole, you end up having to go on his show to apologize.

But "Progress Kentucky" must be held to a higher standard, eh?

I never heard of these assholes, and they can go fk themselves for all I care.

F*cking "conservatives" are too busy pointing out the dust in liberals' eyes to see the giant plank stuck in their own eye.

so because a superpac does something racist that means I'm a racist even if I think what they did was wrong? Conservative logic at its best.

I know that every conservative on the planet seems to be on the same talking-points mailing list, so about an hour after something happens, they know exactly how to feel about it and will be discussing it everywhere from the newspaper to the water cooler, but here's something about liberals that will help you understand them:

They aren't a monolithic bloc. It's one of the reasons they don't get as much done. Acting like they're all one homogenous mass is one of the reasons why the average Internet conservative fears and mistrusts them, because once again, they're projecting.

2013-02-28 04:10:51 AM
I think her race is incidental and not at all referred to in any disparaging or stereotypical way. In fact, one could argue that her race was not mentioned at all. Would it be considered racist if she were Swiss and her father had Swiss business interests?
So yeah no. If this is what you got; then it's not racist when we do it.

Hell, a large number of "Liberals" aren't even really liberal when compared to the rest of the Western world. Here in Australia, I'm considered to be pretty conservative, for Christ's sake. These days, "Liberal" just means "Not Republican."

I doubt any liberals would defend this kind of stuff or start droning on about "reverse racism". Subby, you have to wait for people to do something hypocritical before you can call them out on it. There's plenty of ways you could do it to, especially when Democrats are in power, so all you do is diminish your argument by complaining about things that aren't even real instead of focusing on reality.

2013-02-28 04:41:27 AM
So what have we learned here?

Whenever someone who's a Republican says something pants on head retarded or conspiracy theorist - the Government did 9/11, FEMA death camps, Legitimate Rape, WMDs in Iraq, racist Tea Party signs at rallies....they're not reflective of the entire party.

When one person who is NOT a Republican makes a racist tweet, suddenly that no true Scotsman exception disappears, and it is now the official party line of the Democratic Party.

Funny, that.

2013-02-28 04:45:14 AM
Yep, another "BSABSVR" tactic, made to make Democrats even more goose-steppy, and to push the Overton Window even more to the right. And to deflect from the fact that McConnell is using his wife's connections to outsource jobs, which would be wrong if Kerry used Teresa's connections to outsource jobs. It's not his wife's race that should be targeted, it's his nepotism hurting the nation.

No, as pointed out by other "Dems" and "Libs" on here, no it is not OK when ANYBODY does it. I am glad that the Democrats jumped quickly to condemn it. Not very impressed with the people in charge of "Progress Kentucky" though and how their first reaction was to double down on the derp. If McConnell has done anything which appears to be a conflict of interest, bring forward the evidence; but his family should be off limits. Also for goodness sakes, where have these "Progress Kentucky" people been in the past 4 years, where the ethnicity of the President's paternal family was used to insinuate a compromise of his integrity? Have they not learned anything? The American people as a whole, except for teh least common denominator, have roundly rejected this type of politics. That is why the Democrats hold the upper hand currently. Why do they think the only popular elected Republican in office among mainstream Americans was the first to drop the derp in Chris Christie?

On another note regarding Twitter; it seems that 140 characters is just enough digital rope to hang yourself with.

I also like how stuff like his on both sides gets so quickly exposed now. If it was like this 12 years ago, stuff like the phone call lie about McCain's illegitemate minority baby might not have gotten the traction it did.

The GOP could learn a lot from Democrats in how to handle your party's idiots. You quickly condemn and distance yourself. The GOP has a habit of "circling the wagons" and making a "martyr" out of the offender.

" The jury is to disregard that last statement." said the Judge.
" Yeah but they already heard it and are thinking about it." whispered the defense attorney with a mischievous wink.

Race baiting from anyone (both sides of the aisle) is wrong, and this should have never been tweeted. That said, this wasn't really "racism", I'd say it was more nationalism than anything. Also, the point they were trying to make (poorly) is actually pretty good: there are some legitimate and concerning ties between McConnell and his wife's father. ($80,000 donated to the GOP should raise some red flags)

It's unfortunate that this is now obscured because the idiot who wrote the tweet worded it in this manner.

2013-02-28 07:13:36 AM
Has anybody realized that this sort of thinking really is progress for Kentucky? They didn't even go into misceginatin' the races together being a bad thing. Well done, Kentucky!
