Nice trailer.   Not 'empowered by the gods' enough for my take on WW, but a nice trailer.

Me neither.  But I assume that was Hippolyta's voice we heard there, and it sounded like Marin Sirtis which made me happy.

Rarely is it shown in any media just how formidable a hand to hand combatant she is
She's always portrayed as a slugger like Superman. The big right cross, or uppercut

Wonder Woman is lame. But then again, so is Superman.

I know the costume is "iconic" and all that, I just can't take a combatant seriously when she's basically running around in a bikini.

Having read some of the new 52 stuff...it's decent but the glaring flaw of completely inconsistent characters -- both in motivation, behavior and power level -- is pretty annoying to anyone but an adolescent.

The fact that they use Superman as the Worf of the Justice League storyline is pretty lame as well.

Meh at the trailer. It kinda felt like somebody figured Wonder Woman beating up stuntmen dressed as Nazis would be cool enough that they wouldn't have to come up with any more ideas or put much actual effort into it. Not awful; I give it a C+. Better than the pilot NBC made a year or two back.

I don't get why people find it so hard to translate this particular character from the comics, it's simple: Wonder Woman is a mix of old and new. Her origin is rooted in Greek mythology, her attitude is progressive and pro-empowerment . People get that a Batman villain has to have an antithetical moral code so they serve as a foil for Batman, do the same for Wonder Woman. Bring her values and her origin into contrast by throwing her against a villain who is a) rooted in Greek mythology and b) wants to subjugate everyone.

Have cults worshiping Ares start to pop up in the modern day and push for war against China or something, I dunno.

Simple and to the point. Well done!

I have always liked her, but DC/WB have always mismanaged her in live-action. They just refuse to treat her like a female Superman (which is closer to the truth) and instead turn her into Ally McBeal with a rope and a bad right cross.

Just wait. Marvel Studios will give us a kick-ass Captain Marvel movie some day featuring a powerful, intelligent Carol Danvers who  doesn't  spend all of her time complaining about men and going shopping, and WB will freak out and try to copy that... Unsuccessfully.

Okay, so I watched the trailer. My comments:

1. Ugh. Nazis. I hate these guys. No, really, can we avoid turning her into Captain America? That's some Silver Age crap I don't want to see. Spare us.

2. At least she seems a little physically fit, and I give credit for that, but she's not really very sturdy-looking.

3. She fights like a WWE character. Why is it that ALL female action heroes in movies have to do that lame-ass lucha stuff where they jump up and wrap their legs around a guy's head and pull him to the ground? The fighting was AWFUL, and I don't want to see Wonder Woman doing that stuff. It's lame.

4. Hello? This woman can fly at  half the speed of light. She doesn't need to take down planes with a gun. She can fly up there and rip the damned plane in half.

5. Yes, I said "rip the damned plane in half". She's one of the strongest characters in the DC universe (and THE strongest female character). She's up there with Superman. She can rip a plane in half.

6. How about some superhuman villains and some use of super powers? All I'm seeing here is the TV Wonder Woman updated a little bit. Do some damned research on the character-- THE CHARACTER-- and not the old TV show before you make a fake movie trailer. IMPRESS PEOPLE, don't give them the same shiat over and over again.

7. Honestly... NAZIS?!?!  What the f♥ck? Diana would walk right through a bunch of guys with guns.

Final Verdict: A decently-made by-the-numbers trailer put together by someone who knows jack-shiat about Wonder Woman. He might as well have made her Aeon Flux or Nikita, for all the "super" they displayed in that thing.  Wonder Woman is not Alice from the Resident Evil movies. She's SUPERMAN with tits, resistance to magic, and a meaner attitude.

I agree with  ZeroCorpse.  She's not a female Captain America.  Yes, we need a big time, iconic, girl-superhero movie, but if you're gonna do it, do it right. Put her at the power level she deserves (throwing tanks around, for example).

You people calling Diana 'Superman with Tits' are idiots. She should be treated as DC's Thor. The biggest problem with her is that she has no flaws or weaknesses, which should be fixable by rectifying her absolutely ass-stupid origin. She *should* be Ares' rape baby, which would give her all kinds of father issues that would be a goldmine of story fodder. Her current origin is basically an assertion that there's nothing positive that fathers can give to daughters since Marston didn't let her have one.

/It's also ass-stupid to sell the idea that an island of Greek women would become technological super geniuses if only men weren't holding back.

You would never believe how much harder it is to actually create something as opposed to just spending way too much time ripping them apart.

Her current origin is that she's Zeus' bastard daughter and the heir to Olympus, with War/Ares as her mentor and for once not being played as a maniacal supervillain, but as an old world weary gentleman. Hippolyta lied about the whole clay thing to prevent Hera from farking their shiat up. It is a suitably Olympian.

Ahem, well, you'd be wrong about that. I'm published and out there myself. I know as well as any artist that the work we do is up for criticism. He put himself out there using someone else's creation (Wonder Woman), and that opens him up to being critiqued for the way I (and others) perceive it in relation to the source material he's borrowing.

If you look at what I wrote, I did give credit where due ("A decently-made by-the-numbers trailer"  is a compliment), but I took issue with the way he under-utilized a character that could be so much more if handled correctly. I'm not trashing his efforts-- I'm trashing his sloppy approach to character research when he could have given us more than just Lynda Carter rehashed for the 2000s.

To the actress' credit, she handled what they gave her quite well, and I happen to think she looks better than any recent choice for the role.

If the director wanted to show off what he can do with action scenes, he could have picked any female warrior character to get it across the same way... But he chose Wonder Woman, and then proceeded to make a short film that ignores  everything important about the character.

So forgive me, but since one duty of mine is reviewing things, I have a tendency to pick stuff apart. It doesn't mean I dislike it or I'm directly insulting the artist's attempts; It means I see flaws and point them out. If an artist can't take my meager criticisms and use them to improve future projects, then he should probably quit before the  real mad dog professional critics get to him. I'm just a comic fan complaining that people never use Wonder Woman correctly. A film critic would hit him a lot harder than I did.

Wonder Woman fails in live action because nobody seems to want to spend a little time researching the character outside of the TV incarnation, and since every female action hero since the 1970s is essentially based on the TV Wonder Woman or Charlie's Angels, it's a wasted effort. It's old hat. And it doesn't have to be, because she's a great character with an interesting story or two to be told... It's just that film writers and directors don't want THAT Wonder Woman; They want to be sort of sexist and keep her trapped in the 20th century with high heels and spin kicks, instead of letting her throw tanks and fly, like she's been able to do for quite a while now.

TL;DR - If you're going to write someone else's character, at least learn what they can do first.

AdrienVeidt: Until you let Gail Simone reboot her from scratch, DC; you're not serious about Wonder Woman.

Sadly, those idiots at DC forced her out of the WW gig, subsequently they forced her out of "Batgirl" before fan outrage had her brought back as the writer.

As overused as the plot would be, having Ares in a Lex Luthor-type of role (CEO of a military industrial corporation who's freely supplying weapons across the world in order to inflame conflicts) would be a great foil for Diana's message.

It all depends who's drawing it.

The best versions show it for what it is: ARMOR. Not cloth. It's metallic, solid armor forged by the gods. She's not wearing yellow cloth over her chest; She's wearing golden armor.

I ache for someone to handle this character with some respect in live action, but I don't think it will happen.

I thought that kind of sucked but Wonder Woman did fight Nazis - it's pretty much the first thing she ever did.

Hello? This woman can fly athalf the speed of light.

Only post Crisis, which doesn't count :) Seriously, they've given her so many powers now she's as boring as Superman.

Honestly, I think a WWII WW movie is the way to go - you could compare her Greek mythology with the mythology of the Nazis and have all kinds of fun. And she was still vulnerable enough to get hurt.

Rwa2play: As overused as the plot would be, having Ares in a Lex Luthor-type of role (CEO of a military industrial corporation who's freely supplying weapons across the world in order to inflame conflicts) would be a great foil for Diana's message.

That could work. A decent director could make it a subtle jab at Iron Man's unfortunate glorification of military contractors. Perhaps you have a weapons company called "Ares International" with a CEO that portrays himself as a patriot who wants America to have the most technologically advanced military in the world to keep us safe, while simultaneously selling tech that reprograms those weapons under the table. You get a nice second-act fight scene where WW is attacked by a bunch of high-tech drones or something after she gets too close to the truth. She tracks down the CEO and discovers he actually is the mythological Ares.

OK, that may be a bit on the nose.

ZeroCorpse: The best versions show it for what it is: ARMOR.

I could see the costume  The Stealth Hippopotamus's cosplayer is wearing going that route with a few minor changes to make it more protective (greaves, pauldrons, a few more strips of leather for the pteruges (yeah, had to google that one). Marketing would complain that it isn't "sexy" enough, but throw a few shots of it with strategic battle damage in the trailer and you can woo the pervert crowd easily enough.

Polish Hussar:

Yeah, I grabbed it off a torrent site a few months back to watch out of morbid curiosity; "how bad would a pilot have to be for NBC not to air it?".

It's actually kinda fascinating in how bad it is. The acting, direction special effects and so on are just mediocre, but the script shows a lack of talent that makes the worst MST3K films look like Casablanca. Wonder Woman goes around murdering innocent security guards for no reason and people give her standing ovations for it, then she whines about how hard her life is and moons over ex-boyfriends.
