I want to see a bacon candle

2013-02-27 05:04:27 PM
I'd much rather eat the butter.

//Well, not in one sitting

Candles used to be made pretty exclusively from tallow, which is just rendered fat (think Crisco), which served as potential food stocks as well.

I just watched five or six of his videos. Who is this guy and how can society ensure that people like this are rewarded, protected, and allowed to live out their days in happiness?

Wow.  I came up with an insanely inappropriate comment so bad I couldnt hit submit.  It did make me laugh though, so there's that.

A perfect example of "the fact that you can doesn't mean you should."

Protip: Avoid making your wick from used toilet paper.

Would margarine work?

You can buy 30 hour emergency candles for under $3. I guess the idea behind this is that it works in a pinch, but butter makes an expensive candle. As far as I'm concerned "don't burn food" is among my top five rules for emergency scenarios.

Can someone please explain to me why people who make videos insist on wasting at least 30 seconds of everyones time before they get to the point?

Go be a preppie somewhere else.

"Bring me the candle."

/yes, I know someone already mentioned Brando

Step 1: Burn it.
There are no additional steps.

You probably tried to light it with a Metric match.

I thought you were joking, but then I clicked the link.  That video was pants on head retarded.

Put a wick in it then set it on fire? Didn't waste time watching a video on how to turn a flammable substance into something that burns.

Boring way to waste some time, but like others have said you don't want to burn food.

Butter melts at a fairly low temperature.

I'm sure it this burned for 30 min all the butter would be liquid, thus the need for a wick wrapped around a paperclip - though you also need to bend the clip so it has a base.

You might as well just make a vegetable oil candle - much less expensive than butter.

Or worse, they spend the first 10 minutes describing the camera and other equipment they are using to create the video.

As to the video, lemme guess ... Stick a wick in it. Light it. Ta-effing-da.

I know how to make a fireball with a packet of dry non-dairy creamer.

Always popular at fine eateries.

That was cool, but if I need a candle that badly I probably need a high-calorie food substance like butter more.

Pringles potato chips make terrific fire-starters. Two or three chips are enough to ignite kindling, even in a good downpour. Seriously.

Isn't it just me, but a stick of butter is better going to be used as a stick of butter vs having 3-4 hours of light in most survival scenarios?

Had to pull these bad boys out after storm Sandy. Basically you float a wick in vegetable oil. I used olive oil. Very clean burn.
