He's an 80+ years old treasure hunter...there's nothing they can throw at him he hasn't already seen.
Besides, being 80+, I imagine his heart/body wouldn't last 3-4 punches before giving out.
shiat would sieze up with the first finger they sliced off.

He wins!

This is very bad. People will absolutely DESTROY whatever environment they have to if it means getting two million dollars. You'll have idiots out there digging with bulldozers, and that very well might not be an exaggeration.

No one is going to go fishing and say, "Well, later, we'll go for the treasure!"

What they'll say is... "fark FISHING... fark THESE TREES AND BUGS... fark EVERYTHING... WHERE IS MY farkING NAPALM AND MY farkING BULLDOZER?"

I'm not shiatting you... this will be very bad.

The 80yo man describes it as something he carried 3 years ago, on a walk.  So, if you need a bulldozer to dig up something that a 77yo carried, someplace close enough to a road that he walked (not rode, flew, whatever) to the spot and back to his car, then...you're a big dummy.

So much this. Those scenic trails he wants everyone to enjoy will be DESTROYED, forests cleared by intentional fires, and on and on and on.

It's actually supposed to be in the Jemez, some very pretty pine/aspen covered mountains.

Also, on his (down) blog, he apparently once said that two groups had once gotten within 200 feet of it, but never said which groups.

This guy is loving this.

Just for people's reference, here's the poem:

As I have gone alone in there
And with my treasures bold,
I can keep my secret where,
And hint of riches new and old.

Begin it where warm waters halt
And take it in the canyon down,
Not far, but too far to walk.
Put in below the home of Brown.

From there it's no place for the meek,
The end is ever drawing nigh;
There'll be no paddle up your creek,
Just heavy loads and water high.

If you've been wise and found the blaze,
Look quickly down, your quest to cease,
But tarry scant with marvel gaze,
Just take the chest and go in peace.

So why is it that I must go
And leave my trove for all to seek?
The answers I already know,
I've done it tired, and now I'm weak.

So hear me all and listen good,
Your effort will be worth the cold.
If you are brave and in the wood
I give you title to the gold.

Frak you and your pessimism!

Here is a story that brought hope and joy to my day and then I read the comments...

I applaud this old man and his desire to share his passion with the world, give back, and create a bit of mystery for us all.  His actions give me hope for the world.  Hope that positivity and creativity will overcome the dysfunctional paralysis of constantly criticizing and complaining, as you Mr. Russ1642 did.

What do you mean, Subby, "obvious"? Is it under the giant X in NEW MEXICO?

Could be. They've already done "W" and "T". Personally, I'd go with "M" because "X" is too obvious.

Just in case I looked at the Google map of New Mexico.

1. Take a left turn at Albaquerque (talk about obvous), if you're approaching Albaquerque from the East).
2. Head South towards Socorro.
3. When you get to the turnoff for the White Sands Monument, stop and turn around. You've gone too far.
4. Turn off into Route 380 and head towards Roswell. Don't go there.
5. Turn North on Country Road 54. Then turn into Country Road 55.
6. The middle of the "X" in New Mexico is too your West. Lots of luck, Philémon. There's no roads there and the territory involved is immense because Google Maps won't give you the latitude and longitude of a place that no more exists than the second "A" in Océan Atlantique.
