I hit 120 on the new toll road last month, but the speed limit is 85, and there are zero cops and almost no other cars.  And if I wrecked the only damage would be to me, my car, and an empty field.

I love new tolls roads because there are so few armed, high school diplomed, steroid-shooting knuckleheads driving hot rods.

The juxtaposition of the felony movie theft story yesterday and this is amazing.

My buddy got a dui a couple years ago. He was screwing around in a parking lot and a car with an unlicensed motorist crashed into him. He didn't get jail time but got 250 hours of community service. Don't know how much the fine was but he just paid it off a week ago.

When I was in high school I was playing cat and mouse with some other student at 2 in the morning in my small town with no traffic. Hit 90 in a 25. Went past one of the cops houses right as he was going on duty so we went a few blocks away and parked. He found us anyway and said, "You had to have been doing at least 90! Don't do that." Then he let us go. It was weird because he was one of the biggest douches on our force.

First thing I do if I'm defending the drunk driver is make the prosecutor PROVE that information in court.

Am I the only one who realizes that this is not really unusual? First offense, no injuries usually means no jail time. I know at least two other people who have been in similar situations and had similar sentences. I know, I know, "142... ooh scary!" but for DUI, reckless driving etc, you're usually not looking at jail time on your first offense.

now, now... I am sure the attorney explained that the car's computer indicated 142 before he left the road, but he was actually doing 75 when the vehicle lost traction, and 142 MPH must be a false positive based on spinning tires.
