God, I hate the Cove.  It's inundated with tourists, no good beach bars, and the seals are just a downright annoyance.

Sure, snorkeling with Leopard sharks is kinda sweet, once every so often.

OB or PB if you want a good beach in San Diego, but only do day drunks...once the sun goes down the kids (read: douchery) comes out in droves.

The island in #7 has horses on it.

It's only because of National Geographic that I know that.

Amusingly, the beach in the slideshow pictured for La Jolla Cove is not, in fact, the Cove.  It's what is traditionally called Children's Cove, about a mile down the coast from the one they intended.

And it's been closed to people for years due to it being taken over by protected seals.

Move along, nothing to see here, don't come any further north along the michigan coastlines than the st. Joseph area like all the Chicago-ite morans

Initially, anyway. No telling if there's a delayed blast effect.

One of my favorite beaches.

On the St Croix @ Hudson, Wi. View looks south with Wisconsin on the left, Minnesota on the right.

Free (just have to get yourself there), twenty minutes from home and NOT in Florida.

Mentor Headlands has an equally nice beach to any of these.  Plus, one of the only dune formations on Lake Erie.

Yep, you really can't go wrong with any beach up and down West Michigan.   Grand Haven, Muskegon, Ludington, Pentwater all have amazing beaches.  I can bike to one in five minutes.  Love it.

Jones Beach on Long Island HAS been really awesome, in the past... it's farking trashed now.  Thanks Sandy.

Really though, nobody "travels" there, just from NYC.  I gre up some in that town and when I've been in Europe and trying to explain where the town was all I had to say was "Jones Beach" and they'd be like, "Ooooo!"

Probably because Europe's beaches generally suck and the south shore of Long Island is one of the longest continuos stretches of accesible un-interrupted sand in the world.  Hawaii?  13 miles in Molokai?  Pfffff.  Try LI with over a hundred.

LJ Cove?  If they said LJ Shores or Torrey Pines State Beach, I would be okay with that, but LJ Cove?  The beach is nearly non-existent.  It smells so horrible, due to the bird crap on the rocks,  Parking and ingress/egress are poor.  Oh, and it's full or tourists.  This needs a re-vote.

Well, it's a TripAdvisor "traveller's choice" ranking.  You'd expect them to come up with beaches that are full of tourists, not the ones popular with locals.

Back in my scouting days we camped on the beach after a several mile backpacking hike. We stupidly didn't hang bear bags. Next morning, we woke up to the ponies rifling through our delicious breakfast foods.

That was a looong hike back, but very amusing as we had to chase the cretins. Probably should have had a stereo with yackety sax blaring.

For what it is worth I honeymooned at Siesta Keys a few years ago and had a great time.

Don't plan on actually parking anywhere near anything.  Virtually every potential space to park has a sign saying what that spot is valid for and it's usually got a car in it anyways.  We ended up doing a lot of walking.

Watching sunset there was beautiful...
