Isn't this a no-no? I know the trade can't be official until mar-12. But I thought they weren't even supposed to talk about it or do backroom deals.

Won't he be the 4th "starting" quarterback from the 49ers to be traded to KC? Why do they like our sloppy seconds?

Montana had a decent run in KC didn't he? Didn't win another SB but made the playoffs both years if I recall correctly. And really, do you see a better option for KC this season? Nobody in the draft comes close to the guys that were drafted last year but there's always a chance of another Russell type of QB in the draft.

By getting at least a somewhat proven NFL QB, KC also avoids having to look a Barkley who's a turnover machine going back to HS football. If HS and collegel defenses were giving him trouble I can't wait to see his INT numbers once he gets to the NFL.

I think they can start talking as soon as the season is over, but it can't be official until then and the Chiefs can't talk to Smith until then.

I could be wrong though.

Smith was never going to be traded to a team in the same division that they play twice a year.

They should probably trade any of those picks they can in bundles to move up rounds with less picks next year.  That and REPLACE AKERS PLEASE!!!

I figured that, but when i saw they were making a play for him I thought "Just don't offer them a good player and another 2nd round pick, we did that for Kolb." Hindsight, the Cards may have gotten more out of DRC than he can give now, it could also be he's a terrible fit for the Eagles.

2013-02-27 03:17:50 PM
I wonder if Arizona made a run at him.  the local guys are saying this opens the door for Cassell to come here.  Uh, how does "HELL MOTHERfarkING NO!" hit your ears?  we're already paying a guy with no track record to speak of, other than one decent year (kolb), what's one more?

looks like we'll be going after Gino or Barkley, or slopping up some sloppy seconds.  i predicted sanchez (or Smith) ending up here, but financially it appears the hit would be to much for Jets.  ehhh.  who cares.  there's no one out there.  no one worth a shiat.  frnakly it is almost like, fark it, give the keys to skelton (or kolb, but on a short MFing leash) and let it roll.

Kansas City has never, in its entire history, drafted a good quarterback. It's arguable that they've never even had a good quarterback, unless you count a used up Joe Montana. (I don't get the Len Dawson worship, and even Ryan Leaf would have  looked good behind Willie Roaf and Will Shields.) Kansas City is the saddest place in the NFL for quarterbacks. Even Chicago is better. At least the Bears can say they once drafted Sid Luckman.

Chiefs still have first pick and a much better QB.
Niner's now have 31st and 34th picks in the draft and eliminate the Kaepernick vs.Smith thing.

Good deal for both teams.

Will the Chefs really use the first pick on an OT?

2013-02-27 03:25:25 PM
Derek Anderson will start for Cleveland this year, who will send Weeden to Arizona, who will send Kolb back to Philly, who will then obviously send Vick to Oakland.

The unsubstantiated rumors on ESPN at the moment are that if KC can keep Brandon Albert, they would look to trade picks with the Jets for Revis Island.

yeah, but it seems clear that we're taking somebody, despite one of the weakest FA/draft crops in a long time.

im curious if there is any merit to the rumor that Arians wants the bring Luck's backup here.  now, i'm not syinag Drew Stanton's career 12 games / 4 starts / 56% completion percentage is anything to celebrate, but I've heard that from a few outlets.  "Arians wants to bring in Stanton, was impressed with his work ethic in Indy....."

Given how bad Arizona's line and offense are, do you really think that Smith would make a noticeable difference, even if you think his performance was independent of Harbaugh's influence and playcalling.

I've seen people referring to "the Yorks" and their stupidity a bit on here lately, which means people haven't been paying very good attention to the 9ers ownership/management structure of late. Jed York is running the team now, not his idiot parents, and he lets the football people run the football things, unlike his idiot parents.
