I am so old that I thought the headline was a Neil Diamond reference.

2013-02-27 02:22:39 PM
They'll re-hire him again when they start running low on cash....which should be in about 6 months.

I'm so old I thought the headline was a biblical reference.

Well, that's gonna work out well for them. Remember what happened last time they did that? Scotty hooked up with Slash, and Velvet Revolver had some hits and sold a lot of records. The other guys put out a deeply crappy record called "Talk Show" with the singer from Ten Inch Men, and I guarantee you I'm the only one who was going to remember that.

Not that I'm defending the heroin addict, but dammit. There's just something about that lineup that always winds up being greater than the sum of its parts.

The band didn't say why they let him go. Duh. Did they need to?

As opposed to being so old you knew it was a Stone Temple Pilots reference?

I remember Talk Show, but only the one single I knew of, "Hello, Hello," which was pretty damned catchy.

I saw them after they reunited in 2008.  Weiland was absolute garbage.  Nothing but rock posturing and weak vocals.

Yeah - me too.....and after reading it I wish it was about Diamond.

Saw STP as an almost unknown opening act a few weeks after Core came out. I had no idea who they were but Scott was hands down the most intoxicated person I have ever seen in public outside of an emergancy room.

Gen X, meet your Keith Richards.

Maybe they can get Paul McCartney to front them.

I saw 'em open for the Butthole Surfers.  I think that was a bit later, though....

That's too bad.
I really liked Stone Temple Pilots when I heard them on the radio and thought they were Alice in Chains.

Did you see Ted?  The commentary on 90s music was spot on.

I'm betting he's back on the H again...though I'm not sure if he ever really stopped.

I am solidly Gen X, and Kieth Richards is my Kieth Richards.

I was going to ask the same thing.  Surprised he hasn't gone the Layne Staley route.

That's funny because i thought they were Pearl Jam.

Kieth Richards..... any relation to Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones?

As much fun as the old boy is..... let the Boomers have their train wreck..... we have so many good ones to chooce from......

I bet after this he won't be so willing to drink the bath water that they leave.

Wife dragged me to a show on that same tour. It was so bad we left about halfway through.  I would have played the "I told you so" card but wisely didn't as she was clearly saddened by how crappy they were.

they told him 5 or 4 times.

I know that's a quote.  But, seriously, something fell out of that man's throat.  His vocals are all used up and thready.

As long as we still have Soul Asylum and Gin Blossums, I think I'll be ok!

Saw the Gin Blossoms at UMD's Art Attack in 2006. Surprisingly, they put on a great show.

// holy damn, it was that long ago?!
// they were a "Who? They're still around?!" band even then
// shame about STP - the DeLeos are pretty good instrumentalists

2013-02-27 04:27:06 PM
is he still like 6'1", 115 lbs?

I saw the Gin Blossoms at the WVU Colosseum and (to borrow from an above poster) the lead singer was the most intoxicated person I've ever seen.  Guy couldn't stay upright.  They basically had to duct tape him to a crate to keep him sitting up in front of the mic.

/ was a triple show with Spin Doctors and Cracker.
// Cracker rocked

I didn't know one could be kicked out of an irrelevant band. Does anyone but Weiland's drug dealer really care?

2013-02-27 04:38:04 PM
I saw them a couple of years ago in the middle of nowhere (WinStar casino) and Scott was not only seemingly sober, but put on a great show.

2013-02-27 04:40:18 PM
Saw them a few months ago.  They were average, they didn't suck, but were not worth the ticket price.  Their opening act Crash Kings made up for that, they were smokin', and I wish they had stayed on the stage for the whole night.

I saw Candlebox for free at the KS Speedway a few months ago...they did a surprisingly good job.

And I got a "wow I'm getting old moment" from that day. A college girl asked who they were and I said "You know, that one song. Far Behind."

"No, are they new?"

I said, "No, it was a big hit in the 90's. Like 94 or so."

"I was born in 94"

I was pretty sure headline was a STP reference, good work subby.

/water cleanses ya know...

Well either he hooks up with some other stars to pump out some hits like Velvet Revolver, or Afghan opium production will see a 25% hit this year.

Did they kick him out because he don't know nothin', don't know nothin' anymore?
