I thought it was a full page ad and the articles were just placed there by HBO to look like real ones. I couldn't find anything about "The Lion of the Desert" or "Lost Film Returns" on the NYtimes website.

Yes, the daughter of the previously deposed ruler is returning, and legend has it they carry dragon blood in their veins. She is also raising the last three dragons known to be in existence, and wants to take her father's throne back.

Good news is that she is appearing more and more to be a much better ruler than her father apparently was, and exponentially better than the current little pissant douchebag who everybody here on earthe that has seen 5 minutes of wants to brutally murder. Poor actor will probably never be able to get a role playing anything other than a complete and total prick for the rest of his life.

It LOOKS cool though, I'll give 'em that. Also, props to the designer for doing some serious out-of-the-box thinking there.

I agree that it would be annoying and distracting, but I'd keep that issue for sure.

Too bad the three dragons won't get bigger than a large dog until at least Season 5, unless they change the story considerably from the books.

Reading the books alongside helps alot, too, although they pack a LOT of living into the show.

I can't really hate the Queen (regent). She is just too hot. Also, she really seems to be doing her best in the shiatty situation that she was born into. She never had a chance of every being a healthy person.

I know, I have friends that are reading it and are way ahead.  I've considered this but I already have a long list of books I have to get to before GOT.  If the show wasn't so gotdam awesome and people were saying the books were way better I'd probably do it, plus I really want to see what my main man Little Finger gets into.

no, she's a biatch.  the more you learn about her, the more you find to hate.  she has nothing redeemable about her.  nothing.  she's an absolutely worthless human being with not even a remote glimmer of a soul.  even her brother eventually comes to realize how worthless she really is and abandons her to her fate.

I can't wait. I'm one of the weirdos that likes to watch the show BEFORE reading the book, and I just finished book 2. My opinion so far: Book/Season 1 were decently congruent enough. Sure they removed some characters in the show and basically replaced their role with an already existing character, but overall I was pretty impressed. Book/Season 2, on the other hand... holy hell did it deviate, and sometimes for reasons that I can't fathom.

So, Codex Alera would be great for an HBO is done like Game O Thrones.

I see what you did there...

I read ahead, but that was 2 years ago with season 1, and I read enough that I won't have too many spoilers as the seasons keep rolling down the pike. Truth be told though, they ARE doing a good enough job with the show that the books aren't exactly required.

I noticed the greater deviation in book/season 2 as well.  I wonder if these will accumulate and the whole series will seriously diverge or what is going to happen.  I also wonder if they are going to keep doing one season per book.  GRRM won't have written the next book by the time the show catches up.  At the same time, it seems like some later books could be broken into a couple of seasons.

It's fighting with dragons that's cool now, apparently. (Which kinda makes GoT Dragonlance with the Mormon morality replaced with rape.)

As far as I know, they are splitting ASOS in half for the 3rd and 4th seasons (see my comment above about the big bad ass dragon teaser being a little premature).
