Uh huh.  No reason for the Voting Rights Act anymore.. just the Republicans pushing to violate it more than they have in decades.

Cute headline, though.

Is the voluntary immigration rate for Africans even that high as compared to Europeans, Asians, and Hispanics?

so the GOP loses 5 major elections in a row and their response is to...repeal the voter rights act?  I think it's pretty obvious to see where they're going with this....

Gerrymandering, repealing the Voting Rights' Act, voter ID laws, etc..

Yeah.  They're the party of morality and honesty and whatever.

We're getting to the point where, if you vote Republican, you're probably not really a fan of America or whatever freedoms she may offer, and what you're really doing to attempting a coup to eliminate democracy.

Seriously, Republicans.  If the will of the people bothers you this much, maybe you should just find another country and destroy that government.

what always gets me is when the GOP media engine spins up and starts insulting voters.  'you people are stupid!  now get out there and vote Republican, you whining puking MAGGOTS!  lick our boots!  LICK 'EM!  I SAID LICK MY GOTDAMN BOOTS!'

yeah...see, that whole 'dominance' thing might be how the GOP gets things done in their bedrooms but as a political tactic to regain lost ground it leaves something to be desired.

Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act requires state and local governments across 16 states - mostly in the South - to seek preclearance from the Justice Department or a federal court before making any changes to their laws which affect voting.

I'm sure we could just trust them not to try any shenanigans. I mean, there's simply no evidence that they would.

it just doesn't interest me.  I tend towards sci-fi theme shows but the pickings are pretty slim in that area right now.  back when the history channel actually showed things about real history, I used to watch them all the time....now I just tend to keep the news channels on and/or catch reruns of law and order or 'Supernatural'.

I love when people say what year it is as if that means something. Yeah, its 2013. We're still using gasoline to fuel most of our cars. There are no jet packs. The sidewalks don't all move by themselves. Robots can't feel. The hoverboard isn't in mass production. The aliens haven't landed. There's no cure for Cancer. And bigots still exist.

Looked at article.

Saw it was an objection to section 5 specifically.

Shrugged, noted that that's actually a pretty legit complaint and good legal and ethical point.

Posted 'meh' reaction in thread.

I find this statement to be of significant merit and gravitas.

West Wing Seasons 1-5 were awesome.  I'm just wrapping up Season 7.  It got just a weee bit too soap-opera-y with the romance thing.  The show, it seems to me, lost some of its sparkle in the last season or so.

Still better than 95% of the garbage polluting our airwaves right now, though...
