It's not impossible to make an entertaining Godzilla film. The franchise can survive Ferris Bueller.

I'm curious to see what Gareth Edwards can do with a big budget.

The only people that should be allowed to make Godzilla movies are the Japanese. And even then, some of the ones they made were pretty bad(remember baby Godzilla).

You know that Toho wasn't too happy with the 1998 remake when they make fun of it in one of the last films...if I remember correctly, in the most recent film they have the CGI 1998 remake featured in a couple of short scenes along with a bunch of other classic giant monsters.  The second time he's shown, he's easily defeated by the Japanese Godzilla in a 15 second fight, with the bad guy saying, "I knew that tuna head wasn't up to much!"

Agreed. Monsters was quite good, when considering it was done for far less than 1 million, I am very interested what he could do with a little more money to work with.

According to Variety, the star ofChocolat andThe English Patient is "in negotiations" for a lead role in the reboot.

Total mis-cast.  She looks nothing like Godzilla.

And to add more insult to it. It is the shortest fight scene in the entire movie with a 1 hit Fatal KO. The actual fight took 12 seconds and a 2 hit combo by Gojera himself. Final War is actually a funny bad Godzilla movie.

Knew a guy who was one of the cgi animators that worked on the remake.  I guess computer power still wasn't quite there as he pointed out "Yeah... there's a reason it's always raining when you see Godzilla!".

Come on, as shiatty as some of our action movies are, they're a lot better than anything any other country puts out.
