"I like Chuck," said Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama - who once said he had "dramatic concern" about Hagel's opposition to nuclear weapons and voted against him on Tuesday.

I don't think anything more needs to be said about these people.

I fervently hope that this confirmation does not embolden Iran to accelerate their nuclear weapons development; I fervently hope that this confirmation does not undermine our vital alliance with Israel.

Conservatives accuse the administration of allowing Iran to accelerate their nuclear weapons development and undermining our vital alliance with Israel in 3... 2...

vernonFL: I like Hagel if only because people like Bill Kristol and Ted Cruz hate him.

Of those two, I'd stick with Kristol, he's 'crazy' in the sense of absurdly right-wing, so the opposite of what he thinks is going to be consistently right.

Cruz is more crazy in the sense of... well, the literal medical/legal sense of the word, in the sense of being incapable of mental self-determination.  His decisions alternate between conditioned reflexive responses and someone throwing darts at a newspaper, so sometimes he's actually gonna be reasonably close to correct by sheer statistics.

And then probably say the opposite thing phrased as a confirmation/double down five minutes later.

Without a comma between "Alabama" and "Senator" it sounds like the money would be going directly to the senator.  In real life, there's probably not a ton of difference between the sentence as written and with the comma added.

Their problem with those four "traitors" has nothing to do with the fact that there were enough GOP votes against nomination to sustain a filibuster and everything to do with the fact that they dared to agree with B. HUSSEIN 0bama on anything at all.

Doesn't matter if a bill that Obama wants passed is put to a vote and fails by a vote count of 434-1 (if it's in the House) or 99-1 (Senate); if the one vote in favor is a Republican, that Representative/Senator is a traitor (and will very likely face a Primary challenge)

Came here to say something about Jeff Sessions of Alabama. Sessions represents a state that survives largely on Defense Department spending. The amount of federal money Alabama receives per capita net of income taxes is $10,656. 80% of that is defense spending

How does that compared to other big recipient low income states? Look at Kentucky, which receives $12,129 per capita net of income taxes, The high amount of government money going toward prescription drug coverage in Kentucky - $5.46 billion in 2010 explains a lot of the federal money. Kentucky receives almost $1.5 billion more for prescription drug coverage than California, a state with almost nine times its population. For Alabama it's almost all DoD.
