Word is, the search didn't take long.

Tom Odell, come on down.

Revenue from digital music last year totaled $5.6 billion, while physical music brought in $9.4 billion.

Who... who is buying physical media?  Are vinylheads buying that many records?

I know a few people that buy a lot of music and only buy CDs. Apparently jewel cases are just the bees knees with their hopelessly flimsy joints.

But they also say they like to show off their music collections. racks and racks of CDs are more impressive than a large iTunes XML.

That would awesome; just to see how they will try to minimize the 5" height difference between them.

The best version of a Taylor Swift song so far.

Do those same people only listen to said music on a discman/portable CD player?

Or do they immediately rip everything to their iTunes library at 128kbps/44.1khz?

Ecch.  I ripped my collection and threw all my CDs into my closet years ago.  Same with the DVDs.

/and then Logitech killed the Squeezebox series.  Basards!

One would use their laptop or Bose Soundwave CD player until I volunteered to rip his collection for him. I took a small stipend of music as my payment.

They could just give me a call.  I'd date her.  My wife would be mad at first, but I think she'd get over it pretty quickly.  It's not like I'd have to do Taylor, so it wouldn't really be infidelity.  I'd hang around for the run off cash and gifts that would come my way.  Seems a pretty painless way to get some free stuff.  And since I don't listen to her music, I don't really care if she writes a 3 disc anthology about how much I suck.

If you buy the physical CD on Amazon you get the MP3s for free. Sometimes the physical CD is even cheaper and they buy it back from you for a couple bucks.

I am, for one.  Why do I want to pay money for a compromised quality, often limited use format that has absolutely zero resale value?

Also, interesting graph.  I keep getting told by self-appointed experts that piracy actually leads to more music sales.   I guess the facts say otherwise.

I just got Steven Wilson's new record in the mail yesterday so I'm getting a kick.  Yeah, it's the 5.1 surround version.  Try that with your MP3.

Any good?    Govan is one of my favorite axe guys, I'm definitely curious about it.

It is fantastic!  If you like Porcupine Tree more than No Man or his other solo stuff then this is for you.  It sounds more like P-Tree record than Wilson's other solo work.  Also, the bass player plays a Chapman stick on one song and I'm a sucker for that sound.  And how can you go wrong with Alan Parsons co-producing?  But with my Fark handle you can see I'm biased.

I did not know this existed.  Thanks.  I'm not sure if my old ears could hear the difference between this and the 5.1 bluray version I have.

I still like owning a physical copy of an album.  I like the artwork and the liner notes.  I know that I can see all of that online but I guess I'm just old school.

Oh for sure. I was just unsure if that was sarcastic or not. Lossy codecs have had surround sound support for some time now

My first thought. "The guy from Rage Against The Machine. Isn't he in his fourties."
