Bruno was that guy singing in the background of the recent Victoria's Secret fashion show that none of you guys would have noticed.  He's become quite popular if you listen to hip-hop stations, etc,  I don't think anyone here on Fark does from what I can tell, except us girls.

I have three sisters myself so I'm kind of excited to see this.  I hope these ladies give some guys **puts on sunglasses** huge Mars bars.

I'm confused by how much hate he gets on here.  He's legitimately talented, and his songs span a wide range of genres and ability.  Like a poppy successful ben folds, only handsome (us guys can recognize that at least).  The only thing he has working for him is that his occasional bad song gets way to air play, but thats not his fault.  Hate the game, not the player.  Honestly if every obscure artist had their failures jammed down your throat you wouldn't like them either.

I dunno, I just hate his absolutely terrible lyrics. I'm fine listening to the instrumental versions, but that part of it makes me want to punch the nearest wall repeatedly.

This actually isn't my favorite song of his, but here's a Victoria's Secret clip.  Maybe some guys will sit through the 3 minutes.

Speaking as a performing musician for 3.5 decades, I agree.  The guy definitely knows what he's doing...songwriter, producer, and very talented live performer.  I've seen him with full groups as well as unplugged, and he plays and sings *well*.  Also, his compositions dip into a variety of styles and all seem to be smartly written.

Plus, I don't see a whole lot in the press about him deparately trying to get folks to pay attention to him, unlike quite a few other pop stars that just can't make it through the day without yet another stupid "look at me" moment.  **COUGHrihannaCOUGH**

I think Bruno Mars is one of the most talented artists out there right now.

desertmouse: .  He's become quite popular if you listen to hip-hop stations, etc,  I don't think anyone here on Fark does from what I can tell, except us girls.

I find it odd that he's played on hip hop stations since most of his songs aren't really of the genre. More pop or adult pop. But you are right, he does get played a lot. He's pretty much played on every station here in NYC. A bit overplayed if you ask me, but the songs are great so at least its not Nikki Minaj or some crap.

Anyways, good luck to his sisters. They are quite beautiful.

That seems like an odd comparison. Ben Folds seems like he'd be an affable, funny guy to have some drinks with, but I cannot stand his "everyman" voice. Mars however does have a more dynamic vocal range.

The comparison was more about song styles.  Ben Folds can be the classy entertainer (rain drops keep falling on my head cover comes to mind), he can do songs about the mundane that sound great (cigarette) can be comical (rockin the suburbs), and can totally sincere.  They both do jazz and swing inspired, rock, and piano medleys. * CSB Folds is incredible live, I saw him in a gym with 100 people and he brought energy that one would bring if it were a stadium of 20k./CSB

I think Bruno is a similar entertainer with his range of song styles, but you're definitely correct bruno's vocals are unquestionably better.  Neither of them scream for attention which I totally respect.

Oh yay. Another manufactured pop act where the musicians are actually just hot chicks with autotune and not really musicians at all. Because we have SUCH a shortage of that.

Snark aside, that one on the right - Tiara? Bathe her and bring her to me. I couldn't give a damn about their "music", but they're all pretty damn attractive. Shame about the stupid names, but you don't fark the name so it's alllllll good.

In the first photo, they all look hittable, but it's shot from a weird angle.  In the second photo, the differences become more obvious, and you have to decide what you feel like today - normal, meaty, anorexic, or unhappy-about-you-hitting-it.

Bruno mars is a singer my wife likes. He has a song that endlessly repeats "Sometimes I feel like, I've been locked out of heaven, for so loooOOOOOng". Those are the only words and the song seems to be at least 45 minutes in length.

2013-02-27 01:39:53 PM
Because Bruno Mars is less of a musician and more of a Xerox machine. He takes other people's work and style, mods it slightly and claims it's 'his'. He's the generic knockoff drug sold next to the real thing - one molecule change and he can't be sued.

And he burns through other people's work, fast. First it was ripping off James Brown right down to his moves. Then it was his latest hit, which blatantly ripped off The Police / Sting.

So, no. A talented pitch-perfect ganker of other people's stuff doesn't make you memorable. Instead of going 'Wow, cool', whenever I hear of Bruno Mars, I'm like, 'Great. What's this assclown claiming is his, now'.

No, I know it's the band's apostrophe. The issue is prefacing it with "The". As far as I'm aware the band themselves were just "Go-Go's" and your explanation was reasonable until
some point in the nineties when they started going by "The Go-Go's" and being the only valid "no the" argument in music.
