This is a step in the right direction, visual fidelity needs to go beyond polygon count and resolution.

Squik2: Video Demo

Er, I take that back. Cool demo, but looking further it seems that video and many others are from 2+ years ago, and I confused AMD with nVidia. Oh well. Time for more alcohol.

NVidia Real Time Graphics Demo - 1080p - Lossless Video

They still can't figure out boob physics.

Seem's cool. I wonder if this'll be available on older cards, or just on the latest and greatest high-end models?

Currently running an HD 6800.

How many more of these until he actually gets good?  I mean, I'm watching it right now and he hasn't even died y- OH MY GOD O_O;;;;;

But can it play Crysis 3 with full effects?  I ask because this game is almost as punishing on my video cards as the first one was to that generation's, but pretty as hell too.

I misread this as "Apparently, AMC was bought out by Pantene," and was wondering if there were hair-colored Gremlins now or something.

This makes much more sense.  Oddly enough.

I thought the headline would make more sense if they were bought out by TRESemmé

Actually, that hair looks considerably better than anything I've seen in an anime mod or any other hair mod for a Bethesda game.

And, really, the anime mods have the worst hair.

The difference is the level of detail of the simulation. This hair is dynamically simulated and reactive to stimulus like wind, objects, and the motion of the head. The hair in Skyrim and Oblivion are pretty much rigid models with a little jiggle physics thrown in.

Funny how in the shots her clothes and skin are matted with mud and blood - and her hair is perfectly clean.

They said in the article it requires an AMD 10 or 11 series because it uses DirectX 11. I'm not sure what they mean by 10 or 11 series, but the 6800 does support DirectX 11... so... maybe?

this is amd's version of physx i guess

personally i'd rather see stuff like this be more universal, otherwise it doesn't get as much support

As far as I know nvidia cards will be able to use this.

Most of those are static meshes.  this is actually fully animated hair, which reacts like hair.  Huge difference.

They said it used a feature which debuted in DX11 but is supported by both DX10 and DX11 cards. That feature is called DirectCompute.

If you don't look good, we didn't use enough polygons.

Don't be surprised, when this is all enabled and supported, the blame for chunky frames will stillbe "It's a CPU-intensive game."

Dicky B: Don't be surprised, when this is all enabled and supported, the blame for chunky frames will stillbe "It's a CPU-intensive game."

Or more specifically "Its a CPU related because we can't use modern chipset features because we have to be backward compatible to stem the whines of guys trying to use a pentium4 with an AGP era card and XP 32bit".  Take Skyrim for instance, out of the box and even after several patches the game was flat out clunky in certain spots no matter what you did and what hardware you sported (there was even a particular spot in whiterun where no one, literally no one even with lowered settings could achieve 60FPS).  But then some russian kid with a knack for in-memory remapping decided to adjust the game to force on some of the MMX instruction sets and also undo a lot of sloppy coding involving gluttonous use of one-line functions without any in-lining optimizations.  He single handled doubled everyone's frame rates across the board with his little patches...eventually bethesda had to incorporate them because they were losing too much face.

But there's still the guys using pentium4s and XP32bit, I hate those guys, they are the consolers of the master gaming race :P

It is standard. It uses DirectX 11's compute interface. All the other junk is just AMD trademark words.
