(Huffington Post)   According to a new poll, a majority of Americans find the Republican Party "out of touch" and "extreme." Obviously this means that the GOP needs to become more pure and move farther to the right   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 95

I thought the Republican Party was out of touch and extreme before it was cool.  I've been thinking that about a different party lately--they're pretty obscure; you probably haven't heard of them.

They'd have to believe in pre-greek science, then. We've known since the greeks the world was round.

People didn't fund Columbus not because they thought he'd sail off the edge of the earth,b ut becase his estimate of the circumfurence of the world was *vastly* different than the (mostly correct) greeks. As such, they didn't fund him 'cause "You gonna die out there, dumbass.". And if America hadn't been in the way, he would have.

[sarcasm] This is clearly all because of the manipulations of the liberal media [/sarcasm]

In practice, the GOP will just take this as a signal to keep bleating that they're making "tough choices" and "principled stands" against "creeping socialism" and "loss of freedumb." Their inability to reconcile their ideology with observable reality is clearly someone else's fault.

"Some unwelcome confirmation for Republicans worried that their party needs an image overhaul..."

No, the repubs do not need an image overhaul. They need an overhaul. They think they can change their image while keeping their "principles," but the fact of the matter is, that is not enough. A reformed repub Party would concern itself exclusively with economic issues while scrupulously avoiding all social issues. Then they might claim to be the party of fiscal prudence. But that will never happen of course because they can no longer even pretend to care about the country's finances. They're all about guns, mistreating women and humiliating poor people. They will take the 25% of the population that will vote for them no matter what, and slowly fade into Honey Boobooland while the rest of us carry on with saving the country. Good riddance to them, I say.

They are the prototypical Sauruman example.

They looked derply into Nazi tactics and learned how to manipulate nationalism through propaganda. They looked deeply into the Cold War soviet mindset and discovered the usefulness of cultural paranoia and gratuitous brinksmanship. And in the last 30 years they gazed hard and deep into the mystical secrets of radical fundamentalism, the Taliban and al'Qaeda, insurgency and fundamentalism, and found it good.

The GOP is really a distillation of the worst enemies America has faced. Paranoid, fundamentalist, militarist, propagandists that envision themselves as JesusJihadis out to protect America from itself by destroying freedom.

Depends, if I randomly sample people in Georgia and it just happens that there is a disproportionate majority of KKK members that answer my question, is that something I should infer to the rest of the country?

New poll shows that 92% of America hates the darkiez!

It is simple math to unskew this poll. If 30% more Democrats than Republicans were represented, then obviously it is 30% biased. Therefore, if we just subtract 30% from the Democrat side and add it to the Republican side, we get the unbiased and correct numbers:

Out of touch: R 32%, D76%
Too extreme: R 22%, D 69%
Open to change: R: 69%, D 28%
Strong principles: R 93%, D 27%
Looks out for the country's future: R 75%, D 21%

The statisticals do not lie. You libs are gonna be soooooo mad come last November.

So you're suggesting that there's a significant problem with their sampling? Based on?

Let me do some math:

Republicans: 366/1504= 24.33%
Democrats: 470/1504= 31.25%
Other/Independents=55.58%

Clearly this poll is biased against Democrats or something.
