Did anyone see her interview after the race? She might as well have just said she farked up at the end there.

She just has no idea how to make the car work in the draft beyond holding a position.

That's actually pretty normal at the end of a plate race, and I've seen people end up a lot worse.

I didn't catch the interview but I did see the end of the race.  Dropping from 3 to 8 with that inside line pushing hard isn't unusual.  Jimmy & Dale fought to hold onto the 1 & 2 spots.

agreed, but to the guy's point about "she might have just said she farked up", she got squeezed when others didn't.  the door got closed and she was left holding the bag.  shiat happens.

Meh, there wasn't really much passing other than on restarts.  At least compared to other recent Daytona 500s.  This one was a snoozer.

/btw, why did she leave her team from last year?  anyone know?  i never heard.

Who the hell did? Nobody could pass anyone else. That was the most boring race I've ever seen. Danica's problem on Sunday was that she couldn't leave her pit box without smoking her tires and losing 5 positions while she got the car under control.

+1

i'm not a diehard fan, but i do watch the big races.  i was thinking the same thing...when's it gonna start?  even at the end it was somewhat anti-climactic.

I think everyone was a li'l freaked out about all the wrecks on Saturday, and raced a safer, but less exciting, race on Sunday.

I think in part it's the new car that none of them are all that familiar with yet, especially in full race conditions...  It doesn't seem to bump well, and it doesn't side draft well, if they get too close side to side, the one behind a little goes sideways, making it tough to move up in the freight train...

Ball-less Biffle is to blame. If he had made any kind of move, Danica would have went with him.

Could be.  During the pre-race, Jeff Hammond pointed out this difference; front & back "bumpers" on the previous cars were uniform and lined up for improved drafting, the bumpers are not uniform and don't line up so well on the new cars.

I heard the side draft mentioned but missed the content.

I was at the race and listening to Jr's and Danica's scanners.  Danica was straight up asking her spotter to tell her when to go because she wasn't sure when to take her spots.  Jr and Danica were both saying that any time anyone stepped out of line to pass, no one would go with them.  The other drivers would think "oooo, free spot to move up in" and just leave the passer high and dry.  At the end, Jr was getting annoyed that no one was trying anything which led to him passing people at the end.  He also told his spotter tell Mark Martin to not even think of touching his bumper to bump draft him to the front.  If he got bump drafted, he was going to wreck.  All he asked was for a couple cars to go with him.

I still find this racing better than tandem racing.

I was thinking this during the final laps... however, has it been shown that the slingshot still works?

The slingshot kinda works.  The problem is a single car can only really slingshot one, maybe two cars before it dies out.  To pass a group of cars requires 2-5 cars to go at once.

The sidedraft is back, but it serves more to suck the momemntum off the car getting drafted.

Well if the slingshot doesn't work why don't they try the Shake and Bake?

Speaking of, I see where Yung Moneys team may have ground the frame rails on his Nationwide car, which could be a problem since the entire front clip ended up in the grandstands.

It's because he's about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Chad Knaus' becoming the heir apparent to Smokey Yunick is the most entertaining thing about that team

If he was ice cream, he'd be vanilla, that they only had half the vanilla to put in, but they made it anyway.

All of the charisma (and level of success) of Tiger Woods, all the ethnicity of Fuzzy Zoeller, all the imaginative, distinctive naming of Mike Smith.

Her biggest disadvantage at the end was being a Rookie.  If Jr. or Smoke decide to go at the end people will follow just because of their plate track reputation.

If she just stepped out she'd have finished way worse than 8th.  It's a product of not having enough friends/reputation and not having the knowledge of when to go.

She ran ~top 10 all day, woman or not most every driver out there would call that a damned good day.

Especially the ones in the garage or limping around with half a car at the end.

Not many rookies make the top 10 in anything, let alone sit on the pole.

So there's that.

There were a lot of guys who didn't win the pole or finish in the top ten as well you know.

I will say that I'd like to see parades adopt the "race at the very end" aspect. I'd start watching them, then.

Hell, they'd probably become one of the most popular things in America.

Happened in an ARCA race at Toledo. Unfortunately she crashed her primary car in practice and had to start from the back. Twitter was in an uproar at the news she was on the pole for a while tho.
