One of my extreme-right wing Facebook friends took it on himself to live-blog the Oscars for whatever reason. He had a comment about every single thing that occurred. When Michelle Obama appeared he completely fell silent except to say Argo was a good movie.

Then, the NEXT day, he started posting all sorts of arguments about how inappropriate it was, how it was propaganda, etc.

Like all right-wingers, he had to wait until he read the angry response from his heroes before he knew how he was supposed to react.

ManateeGag: does anyone on that network do any fark research before they speak?

Not likely. That's the big difference between someone like Bill O Reilly and someone like Rachel Maddow. Maddow's show is exhaustively researched, and every segment is structured with recent and historical examples. Even the Daily Show, which is a comedic show first and foremost, is painstakingly assembled to build to a specific point while providing the appropriate context and offering detailed examples using the words and written statements of whoever is being criticized.

O' Reilly, Rush, Beck...they all start with a talking point or two and then just "go with it."

Snapper Carr: As someone who, by and large has been supportive of Obama, I kind of rolled my eyes when she popped up at the Oscars. However, it drove the right wingers totally nuts so I hope to see much more of this sort of thing over the next few years.

Why stop at the Obamas as presenters? Does the President sing in the shower? Record that shiat, get Alison Krause and her band to lay down a backing track, give it to T. Bone Burnett to produce and enter it into the CMA's (for full effect it has to be the CMA's).

Malia's creative writing assignment? Hire Cormac McCarthy to flesh it out, publish it and get it shortlisted for the Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes. Once it wins there, get the Coens to shoot the adapted screenplay and you have another Oscar win for the Obamas.

Enough of this sort of thing and I figure at least a few thousand teabaggers will drop from rage induced cerebral aneurysms.

If you are watching the Oscars, you do not deserve to roll your eyes at anything.

Things Democrats complained about Bush under the Bush administration:
Going to war with a country under false pretenses - Killing 3000 Americans, costing 1 Trillion dollars
Turning the largest burget surplus into the largest deficit.
Torturing prisoners - very likely war crimes
Not getting Osama Bin Laden and giving up.

Things Republicans complain about Obama under Obama administration:
Using teleprompter
First lady telling kids to eat healthy
Obama not wearing coat in oval office.

Yeah she was just fine, rather innocuous really. Didn't really say or do much of anything memorable.

George Bush and Barack Obama somehow ended up at the same barber shop.
As they sat there, each being worked on by a different barber, not a word was spoken. The barbers were even afraid to start a conversation, for fear it would turn to politics.

As the barbers finished their shaves, the one who had Obama in his chair reached for the aftershave. Obama was quick to stop him saying, 'No thanks, my wife Michelle will smell that and think I've been in a whorehouse.'

The second barber turned to Bush and said, 'How about you sir ?' Bush replied, 'Go ahead; my wife doesn't know what the inside of a whorehouse smells like.'

Sgt Otter: ReverendJasen: zetar: "The hypocrisy of having a black 1st lady present the award for best picture when the category included the film Django Unchained is staggering even for the fascists in Hollywood. "

Whaaa?  I don't even understand what that means.  What a tangled mess that freeper's mind must be to come up with that illogic.

Yeah, I've gone over it in my head, and have no idea what the hell it means.

1. Django Unchained portrayed slavery in a negative light.
2. The Academy recognized it as Best Picture.
3. The first black First Lady presented the Oscar for Best Picture.
4. ???
5. Hollywood is full of hypocritical fascists, because of 1 - 3.

You have to remember, the "Real American" approved version of Django Unchained ends with Django and his wife being whipped, the overseer saying "Bet you're not gonna do that again, are ya boy?", cut to black and a white title card, "And they never did," followed by a rousing cast and crew rendition of "Zipadee-doo-dah" under the credits.

Mithiwithi: In some seriousness, I remember that there was occasionally a thing to make "Stepford Wife" references in relation to Laura Bush. I always found it puerile, but I never spoke up about it. Maybe I should have.

I don't recall libs mocking Laura Bush in any other way, though - certainly not the kind of heat Michelle Obama has drawn. Lots of pointing and laughing at the daughters when they got in trouble, though.

When Laura Bush adopted literacy as her obligatory First Lady cause, no one accused her of trying to force us to read certain books.

Michelle Obama chooses healthy eating as her cause, and legions of butthurt teabaggers complain that she wants to force us to eat certain foods.

There was (and will be) people on the left who take criticism of a Republican or his family too far, but nothing I have ever seen from the left comes close to the way the right treated President Clinton and his family, and that comes no where close to how they treat the Obamas.

There are a frightening number of truly ignorant, truly hateful, full-on assholes on the right.

Riiiight. Because if there's anything Oscar viewers hate, it's anything that appears elitist.

Orange-Pippin: ITGreen: Orange-Pippin: Delay: Unlike Laura Bush, Michelle Obama never went on TV and told how she killed a guy.

Wat. Is this a meme I missed?

Laura Bush Killed a Guy

Thanks for the link!
Wow. I hope that was satire:

FTA
So, technically, Laura Bush did not kill a man. Laura Welch killed a man....And if one wishes to get even more technical, the guy Laura Welch killed driving the other vehicle wasn't a man, either. He was a 17-year-old guy named Michael Douglas.

Not at all satire. Before Laura Bush married, she was Laura Welch. Here Laura explains how she killed a guy on television. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMRugwYGfic

Taking vacations

Honorable mention:
"According to CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller, today's trip marks Mr. Bush's 149th visit to the presidential retreat. The planned three-day stay, during which the president is being joined by family and former and current aides, will bring his total time spent at Camp David to all or part of 487 days.
"Yes, that's 487 days. And Camp David is not even where the president has spent the most time when not at the White House: Knoller reports that Mr. Bush has made 77 visits to his ranch in Crawford during his presidency, and spent all or part of 490 days there."

I do think it's weird it would not have happened if not for a big donor setting it up. Or at least, that would have been kept quiet more.

How do you keep an appearance on a world wide television broadcast more quiet?

I think once upon a time the Obamas would've avoided doing stuff like this, in order to deny the right another opportunity for poutrage. But now they know that everything they do will be pilloried no matter what (see: healthy eating), they might as well just go for it and enjoy themselves.

O'Reilly's just pissed that nobody produced his screenplay where Osama Bin Laden was actually taken down by a crack team of right wing talk show hosts and rewarded with a Palin/Bachmann hot oil tickle fight.

Either that, or he bet heavily on "Beasts of the Southern Wild" so he could recycle his rant about how Dubya was the hero of Katrina.

That's one thing I've learned online... you better do a quick google search before you spout of at the mouth.  Obviously they don't teach that at journalist camp.
