That's one thing I've learned online... you better do a quick google search before you spout of at the mouth.  Obviously they don't teach that at journalist camp.

Why would they need to?  Fox News viewers don't do research on their own.  As long as nobody on Fox points this out, they'll never know.

O'Reilly's just pissed that nobody produced his screenplay where Osama Bin Laden was actually taken down by a crack team of right wing talk show hosts and rewarded with a Palin/Bachmann hot oil tickle fight.

Either that, or he bet heavily on "Beasts of the Southern Wild" so he could recycle his rant about how Dubya was the hero of Katrina.

2013-02-26 03:46:07 PM
One of my extreme-right wing Facebook friends took it on himself to live-blog the Oscars for whatever reason. He had a comment about every single thing that occurred. When Michelle Obama appeared he completely fell silent except to say Argo was a good movie.

Then, the NEXT day, he started posting all sorts of arguments about how inappropriate it was, how it was propaganda, etc.

Like all right-wingers, he had to wait until he read the angry response from his heroes before he knew how he was supposed to react.

You know what else Laura Bush never did? Mississippi Black Snake.

www.moneyandshit.com

But in a serious note, there is a simple formula to see how good Obama was vs. Bush.

How many times did MSNBC mention Laura Bush from 2001-2009?
How many times did FoxNews mention Michelle Obama from 2009 - 2013?

Pro-rate for days in office and there you have it.  I am pretty sure higher mentions of Mooooochelle means that they got nothing on Obama.

As someone who, by and large has been supportive of Obama, I kind of rolled my eyes when she popped up at the Oscars. However, it drove the right wingers totally nuts so I hope to see much more of this sort of thing over the next few years.

Why stop at the Obamas as presenters? Does the President sing in the shower? Record that shiat, get Alison Krause and her band to lay down a backing track, give it to T. Bone Burnett to produce and enter it into the CMA's (for full effect it has to be the CMA's).

Malia's creative writing assignment? Hire Cormac McCarthy to flesh it out, publish it and get it shortlisted for the Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes. Once it wins there, get the Coens to shoot the adapted screenplay and you have another Oscar win for the Obamas.

Enough of this sort of thing and I figure at least a few thousand teabaggers will drop from rage induced cerebral aneurysms.

Honorable mention:
"According to CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller, today's trip marks Mr. Bush's 149th visit to the presidential retreat. The planned three-day stay, during which the president is being joined by family and former and current aides, will bring his total time spent at Camp David to all or part of 487 days.
"Yes, that's 487 days. And Camp David is not even where the president has spent the most time when not at the White House: Knoller reports that Mr. Bush has made 77 visits to his ranch in Crawford during his presidency, and spent all or part of 490 days there."

This reminds me of the time Obama made an televised address to students to start the school year a while back. The school I worked at watched it, and the sum of the speech pretty much was "School is important, you are building your future now, so try your best at everything." Pretty standard stuff.

But there were schools in my district that wouldn't show it because parents thought it was some form of socialist indoctrination thanks to folks like Glenn Beck and Rushbo.

I tried to point out to some of my hard core conservative friends that George Bush Sr and Ronald Regan also did a televised address to students during their presidencies (where they actually discussed their policies), but that just sent them into a blind rage. A few still aren't speaking to me due to that conversation from so many years ago.

That's about the point I gave up on trying to reason with right wingers.

When Laura Bush adopted literacy as her obligatory First Lady cause, no one accused her of trying to force us to read certain books.

Michelle Obama chooses healthy eating as her cause, and legions of butthurt teabaggers complain that she wants to force us to eat certain foods.

There was (and will be) people on the left who take criticism of a Republican or his family too far, but nothing I have ever seen from the left comes close to the way the right treated President Clinton and his family, and that comes no where close to how they treat the Obamas.

There are a frightening number of truly ignorant, truly hateful, full-on assholes on the right.

By saying that they are just being "racist" you are dismissing them without actually understanding them.

To claim that someone is racist is pretty damn easy.

There is a huge study that someone should do asking these kinds of questions.

Does race play a part? Of course it does. There are racist people who do hate her because she is black. But to claim that the majority are doing it for racist reasons is a bit of a stretch.

a) Lying about your enemy is the oldest tactic in the book
b) When you are at war with an enemy you tend to take shiat and run with it. If it is delusional, who cares? As long as you get enough people convinced to be against your enemy you have done well. Plus, there are those who are batshiat insane. Alex Jones is not a racist man but he believes in birtherism. He got this notion from racists and he ran with it because of his paranoia. He believes the NWO installed Obama into the office of the presidency so the NWO could show their strength to the public that they are in charge because they put a non-American in the office. How do I know that is what he believes; that he is not a racist? He is one of the only few mainstream conspiracy theorists out there who are not "OMG ISRAEL CONTROLS THE WORLD!" Many conspiracy theorists believe that Alex Jones is a tool by the Jewish bankers who control the world. Seriously.
c) Conservative media organizations are more interested in making money than they are at pushing an agenda. The idea of business is to make money, and appealing to a specific demographic tends to get higher ratings than a general all purpose network. Do you know how much money Alex Jones makes? He rakes in over a million a year on fear.

It was a publicity stunt from the Academy that worked 3 ways. Argo and Zero Dark Thirty were both salutes to the CIA, and if Lincoln had won, it would have been the family of the current president saluting a past one.

He is right in what he said. I do not agree with his analysis on why hyper-partisanship is extreme.

Basically, here is my theory (I should write it down and make a book about it):

The reason for hyper-partisanship is two fold. Number 1, Obama was seen as the ultimate Liberal in the 2008 election. He ran on very liberal positions and he got elected with them. His views and positions made him out to be the scorn of the Republican party. Secondly, he GOP learned early on that Obama confuses compromise with capitulation. They knew they could steamroll right over him and they did.

As for racism, yes, it does exist. Most people who engage in anti-Obama racist activities (i.e. Birtherism) do so because they trust other people and have no independent thought. It is scary how many people have fallen for this racist ideology without even considering why people think he was born in Kenya

Yeah, I've gone over it in my head, and have no idea what the hell it means.

1. Django Unchained portrayed slavery in a negative light.
2. The Academy recognized it as Best Picture.
3. The first black First Lady presented the Oscar for Best Picture.
4. ???
5. Hollywood is full of hypocritical fascists, because of 1 - 3.

You have to remember, the "Real American" approved version of Django Unchained ends with Django and his wife being whipped, the overseer saying "Bet you're not gonna do that again, are ya boy?", cut to black and a white title card, "And they never did," followed by a rousing cast and crew rendition of "Zipadee-doo-dah" under the credits.

I should be in the kitchen: I was wondering when the right wing outrage would begin. Especially since she was presenting the award for Argo. Wasn't there some right wing outrage over that movie too? I just can't keep track of everything anymore.

In this thread I attempted to show the very worst that was portrayed against Laura Bush. And it was the truth. Then I attempted to show how much Laura was hurt by her accident. Nothing against Laura Bush comes close to the false degradation and filth spewed against Michelle Obama daily by the Republican Party. A simple Google Image Search (GIS) shows the level GOP depravity. It's the same on Fark. Some guy, pretending to be a dentist, on this site repeatedly portrayed Michelle Obama as a monkey.

It would be fitting if Laura Bush would step in and denounce the GOP bigots because they are both first ladies, but expect Laura won't. She is on board with Jeb in 2016. See her announcements today regarding marriage. Party first.

George Bush and Barack Obama somehow ended up at the same barber shop.
As they sat there, each being worked on by a different barber, not a word was spoken. The barbers were even afraid to start a conversation, for fear it would turn to politics.

As the barbers finished their shaves, the one who had Obama in his chair reached for the aftershave. Obama was quick to stop him saying, 'No thanks, my wife Michelle will smell that and think I've been in a whorehouse.'

The second barber turned to Bush and said, 'How about you sir ?' Bush replied, 'Go ahead; my wife doesn't know what the inside of a whorehouse smells like.'

That's not remotely fair.

Real American Django Unchained simply ends with the DiCaprio character getting shot in the head, and Foxx turns to the camera and says "Well, that's that. Surely the playing field is now even and my people will have nothing to complain about from now on." Credits roll.

Once again the Obamas fail to meet the high, high standards of the Bush administration. When has Obama even considered being nice enough to give another world leader a backrub, without even being asked, or provided free advertising for America's pretzel industry?

ManateeGag: does anyone on that network do any fark research before they speak?

Not likely. That's the big difference between someone like Bill O Reilly and someone like Rachel Maddow. Maddow's show is exhaustively researched, and every segment is structured with recent and historical examples. Even the Daily Show, which is a comedic show first and foremost, is painstakingly assembled to build to a specific point while providing the appropriate context and offering detailed examples using the words and written statements of whoever is being criticized.

O' Reilly, Rush, Beck...they all start with a talking point or two and then just "go with it."

Sadly I can translate more or less.

1. FreeRepublic believes Django Unchained was made by Liberal Hollywood entirely to make black people furious about how oppressed they are and how they have to Kill Whitey

2. Michelle Obama, the wife of the man FreeRepublic thinks was elected based on his race by Liberals and black people, is proof that black people aren't oppressed, in fact White People are because they cannot play the race card like Michelle Obama does. Also she was educated by Affirmative Action and is actually quite dumb, which means more oppression against white people.

3. It was hypocritical of the Academy to use a powerful black person who has benefited from rampant reverse racism as the presenter for a category that included a film made to convince black people they have no power and need to kill white people.
