Legitimate selling point:  "she's sane."

I wish her well and think she would make a good choice, however democrat and catholic in SC doesn't play well these days.

Especially not in the Low Country. Batshiat crazy and a deep hatred of everyone not white, christian, and heterosexual seems to play pretty well in this state. I'm in the Upstate so it's not quite so bad, still pretty bad though.

Did Catholic ever play well in the deep south?

I wonder if those conservative that think he is really conservative are confused?

Depends on how deep, probably.  Gingrich was a Catholic (converted, I think?), and he got elected there a few times.  Santorum also got a pretty good reception.

I think Gingrich converted after he left office.  Santorum was like Rmoney - he said the right things so the mouthbreathers overlooked it.

Catholics are now welcome in the South, as long as they're white and they act batshiat insane.

That was an effective, entertaining and heartfelt piece of stumping right there.

Did I hear that right?

The GOP might be running Mark "Governor of the Appalachian Trail" Sanford against Elizabeth "Lulu" Colbert-Busch?

Cos that's what I thought I heard.

Yes, he is considering a run for that seat.  And he is considered the front runner if he does since its an R+11 district.

She's a Democrat. She's already lost

Catholicism's not the stigma down here that it was 50 years ago.
Hell, even blacks and mormons are getting votes.
The trick is that it doesn't matter what race, gender, or religion you belong to, you just have to have an "R" next to your name.

Or, to put it another way

Lost Thought 00: She's a Democrat. She's already lost

All things being equal, I always prefer the reluctant candidate, pushed into politics rather than the one which has sought office their whole life.

It's the seat he used to hold 20 years ago before he was Governor?

Wow, Lulu likes a good challenge, it appears.  This could get real weird. A race to watch.

She is white, Christian (Catholics were Christians before there were ever Protestants), and I am pretty sure she's straight. The Democrat thing, though....

Well DAMN, and here I thought this would be some Conservative blogger's SHOCKING expose on how Colbert actually doesn't believe what he says.

Um, I think you have your end of the state confused. If a Democrat, much less a non-Baptist Democrat is going to get elected in SC, it's going to be from Charleston.  The various county Democratic Committees in the Upstate are now such a nonentities that they probably hold meetings at the Woodruf Rd. Cracker Barrel.

It's just one tiny word, but it changes the whole meaning of the sentence.

No confusion here. No Democrats in SC, that's our mantra. BTW I actually live on (old) Woodruff Road, and there's no Cracker Barrel for 15 miles or better.

You know how I know you weren't at the last Upstate Democrats Committee meeting? Because it was held at table 17 at the Cracker Barrel at the Woodruff Rd. I-85 interchange.  Maureen, the waitress, remarked that the group was an exceptionally well mannered 8 top. And I heard the biscuits and gravy were delicious.

Heh. Woodruff Road at I-85 is in Greenville, and is 15 miles away. I'm on Old Woodruff Road, in Greer. And no, I wasn't there. Tell Maureen I miss her.
