I'm just hoping they have enough money for season 2 of House of Cards, well pending how good AD is.

I read the article and I kind of get what they are doing. I mean a return of Arrested Development after 7 years off the air is going to generate tons of buzz for netflix and get a ton of people to sign up for it. But say they wait a year and do a second season. It is going to cost probably the same, probably have lower ratings (it is rare for a show to have ratings go up season to season) and have no where near the buzz the first season did.

2013-02-26 09:46:38 AM
I loved that show, but sad to say, I guess I've moved on now and am pretty much bored with all the news about reboots, resurrections, etc etc etc by now.

You can't recreate magic, It had its time, but it came and went. As much as I loved Pushing Daisies, I would hate to see them try and resurrect it

It all depends on how good the ratings are for the next season of AD.  If the ratings are high and they start to see subscribers seep without another season, then they may add more.

Smart and funny show. Let it die already.

Not a big deal. Stories don't need to go on forever. Four seasons and a movie would be a nice way to round out the show. Honestly, I was okay with the way the show ended, rush job after the Rita Leeds episodes aside. At least it had an ending.

I'd say, "Hey, let's take a shot at re-creating Wonderfalls," but that was an amazingly well-done, self-contained story in one season, too. I feel like Bryan Fuller is really good at giving endings to his stories, actually. Not one abrupt cancellation has left me really hanging out there.

However, I think good ideas are always good ideas if one can execute them. I wouldn't be disappointed with another season of Firefly (or another movie), for example. If a story is still not at a working end-point, there's always room for more.

Same here. That show is way too addicting.

I have to agree with you on that one. Damn do I wish that was streaming on Netflix.

House of Cards was picked up for two seasons when it was greenlit, so we're good there.

Netflix will simultaneously release all 14 new episodes of Arrested in May.

Then May is when they'll get my subscription. I've never signed up for Netflix before, but original content is a good way to get me to subscibe. And new Arrested Development is a no-brainer.

Now if we could just talk Fox in to giving up the rights to Firefly...

you don't even have to subscribe.  Everyone gets a free one month trial.  sign up, watch every episode in 3 or so days, have some fun for the rest, then leave.  If they don't make anymore, what's the point in keeping it?

Who exactly would make firefly? Whedon is a little busy with The Avengers (and the new SHIELD show) and from what I understand the other actors (at least that dude from Castle) is involved in a much more successful show on a real network.

A show in the firefly universe doesn't necessarily have to have the same actors/director/storyline. Other scifi shows (star trek, dr who, stargate, BSG) have all gone this route with various levels of success.

As much as I like Firefly and would love to see more, there's no way they'd be able to round of the cast for it.  Mal is working on Castle, Zoe is busy with Suits, Wash seems to have no problem getting steady work with bit parts (even if they retconned his death), and River is still working her way up to getting an entire network cancelled.  Whedon will probably be kept busy with Marvel properties for years to come.

I'd be happy if they could just get Dr. Horrible 2 worked on.  That wouldn't be nearly as difficult to schedule actors for, assuming they can put together a good script.

Hmnnn... That's a good idea. I do feel like giving them some money for producing a new season though. It's the kind of thing I like to encourage with my dollars when I can. I mean, if I'm going to pirate shiat because I'm a working class guy who can only afford to pay for so much media - and our wages have been decimated over the last 30+ years - I should at least support the best stuff that I'd like to see more of with what money I can spare.

And I'm guessing it set the standard a little high.  This may be Netflix saying they don't think their season of AD is all that good.  Of course, that may not be fair because House of Cards is fantastic.

I'm good with just one season. Hurwitz is supposedly very happy with what he's come up with and never wanted another season. I'd hate to see AD slip in quality. One season and maybe a movie is plenty.

Okay, I'm similar so that's fair.  You might even like their service enough to keep it anyways.  I'm just saying don't feel too guilty if you try it.  They would still see that you signed up for that specific month thus driving their numbers, and if you thought it was that great you could buy the dvd set for the season.  I'd say its like going to a friend's house to watch it, as well as a few movies or tv series for a month straight.

/who hasn't done that?
//check out Better Off Ted when you have your month, similar to AD

Maybe they could afford another season if they got rid of the Seaward.

Wash is a main character on Suburgatory.  Adam Baldwin seems to be doing fine.  What happened to Simon?  Does that guy do anything?

I am sure Netflix knows exactly what percentage of all people who sign up for the monthly trial keep their membership and what percentage cancel after the month is over. For one thing it would be stupid to give away a free month if they didn't. And I imagine that average was taken into account when they decided to spend the money to produce more Arrested Development episodes.

Hell I imagine there are a ton of people who sign up for the free month (enter in their credit card info) and then forget to cancel before the first billing date.

As someone who watches AD fairly regularly on DVD as background noise (I don't have cable precisely because I pay about as much attention to that as I do to DVDs) and laugh at the jokes that I hear because I still think they're funny, I really don't care anymore.  Yes, I get it, unprecedented method of resurrecting a TV show.  Yes, I'm supposed to be excited (the show did make me a Charlize Theron fangirl for life, so there's that).  But...enough already.

That said: bring on more House of Cards.  Didn't blow my mind or anything, but Kevin Spacey is a damn fine actor.

It has been 6 years, 2 months, three days, fourteen hours, seventeen minutes and twelve seconds since I last saw an episode of pushing daisies.  I think it was enchanting, but its time has passed.

This. A single season is all I could ask for at this point. If even half the magic is there, I'll consider it worthy. If they honestly tried to move ahead with new season after new season, I think they'd make a huge mistake.

i managed to cancel my first trial in time. then i signed up for another trial with a different card/email. totally slipped my mind until i checked my bank statement. i just keep the subscription open now. it's basically a pack of cigarettes per month.

I'm waiting for more Lillyhammer.  Aren't they going to start filming that this year and put out another season?  Quirky Norwegian dudes trying to figure out what Steven Van Zant is saying is fun.  So are the occasional hot topless Scandinavian women who just show up to run around.
