I would show you my shocked face, but it was left behind at a gas station in Connecticut.

The monthly bus fires were not already a strong enough clue for some of you?

I've taken the Fung Wah bus to NYC a couple times. It's really not that bad. All you need to do is make sure your life insurance policy is up to date, bring a book, ,ring some headphones, and don't make eye contact with any other the other passengers lest you get shived.

Wasn't Fung Wah the line that had the wheels (literally) fall off one of their busses on the Mass Pike?

Things that have happened to me on Greyhound, and this was all on the same trip. 100% true, no BS.

Left Boston with driver starting us off with: 'Take your belongings blah blah we'll be arriving at Springfield at blah remember to refrain from cell phone usage...(voice gets weird here) Cell phone.......Celllllllllllllllll phonnnnnnnnnnn (mic cuts out). Little did I know that that was when his drugs were kicking in.

Fell asleep. Woke up to BANG. BANG. BANG. BANG. on the Mass Pike. Driver had fallen asleep. Stone cold out. He'd slump over the wheel, nailing the gas. BANG as the bus accelerated. Driver would be rocked backward from acceleration, foot off gas. Bus slows down, he slumps forward, BANG again.

Three people rush to wake him up. He shrugs them off as is mildly inconvenienced. He then takes out his cell phone and looks at it as it it came from the Arc of the Covenant itself. He opens it with this perplexing mix of shock and wonder, puts the mouthpiece to his ear, eyes wide. He then puts the earpiece to his mouth and starts praying into it. Leaning and rocking back and forth loudly praying into his phone. A few pauses to listen to God from the mouthpiece again, and then we're back to praying.

Bus gets into Springfield. Everyone starts calling Greyhound. I shuffle into the men's room which looks like a prop from the movie 'Warriors', everything's destroyed. Someone has sledgehammered the toilets, save one. I sit down and on the wall in impressive cursive was a five paragraph dialog on how oral sex 'up the butt' was not only healthy, but a daily necessity. I stagger back out to wait for my connecting bus.

As I'm sitting there, something sits next to me, feet jiggering and dancing. I frown. The little voice inside says 'Don't look up'. Feet jigger faster. No-name shoes. Hi-tops. I finally drop my newspaper and lo and behold, there's a dude in basketball shorts frantically jerking it as hard and as fast as one can. Mouth silently framing all the vowels known to man over and over while his hand is down his pants, simultaneously at the top and bottom of his junk. I get mad.

I mean, really, really instantly pissed to the point I literally see red. Then that same voice spoke up in my mind and said, 'Hey Znuh. If you were watching this happen in a movie to a guy, instead of you, you'd laugh your ass off'. Which, when I visualized, was pretty damn funny. I laughed out loud. The Phantom Jerker frowned below his jawline, which made me laugh even harder. I looked away, then looked back and he was gone. Like, GONE. I an only surmise that he was a time-traveler and was moving steadily backwards through time by sheer will of excessive masturbation. Connecting bus arrives.

Get on bus, we leave the depot and Springfield behind. Man starts flirting with a very young girl in College with the opening line of 'I just got out of Jail'. Bus pulls onto highway, yay! and then... we take the next exit for no reason to....cruise the Holyoke Mall. Upon where the driver pulls up to each Mall entrance, not stop, but to angrily drive by slowly and glare at everyone coming out the mall. I can only guess from his actions that he was stalking someone. With his bus. With us all on board.

I finally got to Northampton and literally screamed as I got off. From that point on, nope. No more Bus Adventures for me. Never again.

After years of accidents, crazy driving, and other violations authorities finally ground the fleet over relatively minor mechanical defects. It's like getting put on the no-fly list over lighting a cigarette on an airplane when they've let you get away with hijacking in the past.

everyone around here knows those chinese buses are deathtraps (i know, i know, a chinese product that is highly dangerous, shocking right?).

All they do is shuttle people to and from the casinos and outlet malls, so its not like we lose much when they plow over a guardrail and into a ditch.

And now I figure that Greyhound trips in the Midwest are nice and calm in comparison, with the main risks being their location in the ghetto and an inordinate number of Amish. :D

(Seriously, Amish tend to take Amtrak en masse where it's available and Greyhound where it isn't.  In general they aren't the ax-murdery type, though. :D)

Have been tempted to do Megabus rather than the plane next time I want to do a trip up towards Indy or Chicago, the main stumbling block being a) I haven't seen any trip reports re Megabus and b) getting up at ass-thirty so I don't arrive in Chicago or Indy at ass-thirty :D

(No crazy Chinese dragon-line bus lines here, though.  I really think that must be a Northeast thing, and have heard more than a few horror stories regarding them...as it is, Megabus is just as cheap around here if you time ticket purchase right, and there is some concept of bus maintenance.)

my niece and nephew have taken the Mega bus between Minneapolis, Madison  and Chicago a few times.    They haven't had too many complaints.
