Dumb, loyal, and I'm glad he lived. Wow.

Most people know this.

My wife calls our lab an idiot savant.  It took him all of an hour to learn how to open our baby gate if it isn't locked and can open drawers to get food.  We kept them secured by jamming a yardstick down through the handles before baby-proofing. The again, he also plows into the screen door every single time when it's shut and I open the glass slider first.  So there's that.

I had a Siberian husky that ate a big rock once. That was a very expensive trip to the vet.

Barney had a successful operation to remove the stones and made a fully recovery. He has returned to live with the Woollards to have three daughters, Katie, 17, Holly, 15, and Emily, 13.

??? Are we to surmise that eating rocks magically bestows dogs with teenage daughters?

Yes. This happens when dogs make a "fully recovery".

My youngest son was forever walking into the screen and glass patio doors. I had to put stickers on the door at his eye-level to prevent this - and move these up as he grew taller.

No one anywhere proofreads anymore.  At least not amongst the English language.

I used to have this problem with my pups - I finally put a big X on the screen with black duct tape.  It helped quite a bit.  Then I got one of those Magic Mesh screens.  It has lost a few magnets from being windblown into the door quite a bit but I'd still buy one again (and most likely will when this one can no longer be repaired).

Not really.  Labs consistently score near the top in studies measuring dog intelligence. There is a reason why they excel at being service dogs, search and rescue, etc.  They're not dumb, they're just goofy bastards that like to eat everything they can find.

these people are irresponsible dooshbags. make them pay the vet bill and take their dog to a home where people will be responsible. morans. a lot of dogs get killed because owners let them run off leash. the people who run the dog over feel like shiat about it. morans.

When I was a kid, we had a neighbor whose dog ate rocks.  It was an Irish Setter tho.

I put a strip of duct tape across the screen at my mutts eye level and it worked perfectly.  I have a perpetual argument with my father as to whether or not labs are farking retarded.  Its his favorite breed.

During a party one night, everyone kept filling a dog bowl with beer for my friend's 5 month old lab pup. He dutifully emptied the bowl until he passed out. After that, we often found the dog at a nearby creek. He would select one large rock and bark at it for hours.

/alcohol induced brain damaged dog, sad but kinda funny.

The dog must have committed adultery with a married Labrador.

Heh. That reminds me of the time my lab pup and I were playing a game of fetch indoors. I threw the toy down the hall and he retrieved it. The only problem was that he forgot to look up when he was running and ran head first into a wall!

Since then l give him a little slack whenever he has a "special moment".

/show him a treat and he'll perform almost any command you tell him to.

A relative of mine rescued a border collie that had been more or less ignored to the point that it developed the nervous habit of chewing on rocks.  $3000 worth of dental work later, the dog is much happier.

2013-02-26 01:23:11 PM
my sister's dog ate her chew toy. Several thousand dollars later and a few feet of intestine gone and she's alright. Funny thing is my sister will argue adamantly about how purebred's are smarter than mutts. That dog, while sweet as hell, is just plain stupid.

2013-02-26 01:35:40 PM
Thank dog those rocks were smooth and round - know someone who had a 'suicidal corgi' who died from cepsis and a perforated bowel.  Pointy rocks BAD.

2013-02-26 01:44:31 PM
So without the surgery the dog might have been shiatting bricks?
