No, I read the article, and based upon that (assuming the reporting is reasonably accurate), this guy made what could be construed as actual threats.

Each side has their idiots.

This just proves Republican gun nuts were behind the Tucson shooting all along. Now their own soldiers are spilling the beans about it.

The funny thing is the guy was more concerned with being labeled a racist.

Because he would never say those things. Just write them.

Because the liberal media upset him so.

Not his fault, really.

Then, of course, there are people like  Million Mom March organizer Barbara Graham who shot someone with a TEC-DC9 "assault pistol".

That's just the *ULTIMATE* in hypocrisy.

Clearly, no background checks for guns should be mandatory, all loopholes should remain unclosed and everyone should have access to assault weapons.

Sain:   "I'm just voicing some frustrations about a topic I consider sacred, especially after wearing a uniform and fighting for this country. When you have media pushing blame on gun owners, that just brings my emotions out."

Fields:   Fields, whose son was shot and killed in 2005 before he was able to testify against a gang member, is sponsoring two bills that aim to close loopholes in private gun sales and limit high-capacity magazines.

Having a hard time articulating why I find this interesting (work was ugly this afternoon - can't brain right).

Seems one person's passion, informed by personal experience, is valid while the other's isn't.  And a cool study in how one applies those passions.  Constructively and destructively.

Only one way to be sure-- You should send it to your local state legislator.
Ooh-- include lots of racially and sexually offensive stuff.
Oh yeah, and specify the specific fire, along with real world victims.

You do that, and we'll definitely find out if it's considered a threat.

Gun nuts also don't think they're whack jobs for stockpiling weapons and threatening elected officials with death for disagreeing on a narrow point that has no bearing on the 2nd Amendment. Thanks, NRA propaganda.

Here's my problem:

Recently, a good friend of mine thwarted an armed robbery with his concealed handgun when a couple of homeless guys pulled a knife on him and demanded his money. He drew both his pistol, and his cellphone and held them there until the police arrived. Nobody was hurt.

Most of us thought that it was a cool story and we congratulated him on handling it so well. I personally would have bet a paycheck on him killing both robbers and several bystanders in that situation.

His gun nut buddies all felt the need to point out that he could have legally shot and killed the perps. They were disappointed that he didn't take advantage of his opportunity to legally kill somebody.

I know its just an anecdote, but if several hundred Fark gun threads have taught me anything, it is that there is a large population of would-be Charles Bronsons out there itching to grease a punk.

Wadded Beef: Clearly, no background checks for guns should be mandatory, all loopholes should remain unclosed and everyone should have access to assault weapons.

Half of the gun control debate is about language and phrasing.

The "gun show loophole" stems from the right to conduct private intra-strate transactions without interference from the federal government.

Everyone has pretty easy access to an "assault weapon" (you can get an SKS for less than $300 in these parts), but very few people have access to "assault rifles" due to exorbitant prices.

We currently do have mandatory background checks for all firearms sales within the jurisdiction of the federal government (all purchases made through FFL dealers). This is why congress won't be closing the "gun show loophole" at the federal level, because they can't.

The gun control advocates are in a very tricky situation- to tell it straight would be tantamount to admitting that 30 years of gun control policy has been ineffective in curbing criminal gun violence. They really have to make it sound like they're proposing novel regulations by conjuring up terms like the "gun show loophole" and "assault weapons." Strawmen are the only opponents they can defeat.

The reality of the situation is that the only permanently effective way to seriously combat gun violence would be to repeal or modify the 2nd amendment, and they know that's not going to happen any time soon. So instead they mislead and contort and make you believe that 99% of gun users are gang members and drug dealers when the reality is that criminal use makes up far less than 1% of all gun activity in the US.

Gun crime certainly needs to be addressed, but the narrative needs to be flipped. They need to enlist the broader gun-owning community as the reasonable people they are rather than demonizing them.

See, this is the problem with the echo chamber. The "liberal" media has never pushed the blame on gun owners, but I'm sure his derpy echo chamber has convinced him of this and now he's worked himself into a frenzy over it.
