catastrophe averted: coco ebert: "Eluded"?

I've read about 100 news articles today.  All but 2 of them contained some sort of grammar, punctuation, or syntax error.   How do news agencies think this is acceptable?  Where are the proof-readers?  UGH!

I was talking about this with someone just yesterday. They laid off copy editors to save money -- at least at the newspapers, and this is one.

These days, I'm just glad when they don't use U, R, and 2 as words.
